I send my sincere sympathy to Sylvan's family. I had the privilage of knowing the Swanberg family since they first came into the Valhalla area, thus knowing Sylvan all his life. A couple of years ago he took myself and a couple of other old timers for a drive around G.P. showing us his many ventures. We had a great time visiting and remenising. He was a great fellow. He will be missed by many. Clarence Velve and family.A candle was lit

We are paying tribute to a a very special person. I really don't remember a time when Sylvan was not a part of my life although I may not have seen him nearly as often as I would have liked he was very dear to me. I was only 5 when my brother Irvin married his sister Elsie. My brother Floyd and Sylvan became good friends and Sylvan always treated me like I was important and not just the younger sister.Sylvan has always been a very humble man we all know how successful he was in business he never changed. He worked hard and provided jobs for so many people who in turn provided for their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dorothy and the entire family. Your family has always been a fine example of what both your Mom and Dad have thought you so the legacy goes on.Ken and I will truly miss him.

I had the pleasure of working for Sylvan Swanberg and Gene Gauthier at Blue Sage Transport in Grande Prairie AB in the early 1980's until Nov 1987. I worked in the office doing books, everything was manual using a calculator with a roll of tape. I was not one to sit around and often Sylvan would come in the office finding me moving furniture, cleaning windows or dunging out the bathrooms. I can't remember if I asked him to help or if he voluntered to help. Either way he always chipped in and helped me clean what every I had my hands into. Then we would enjoy a cup of coffee and solve the world problems. When we ordered company jackets, I thought Sylvan should have one too. He did not want his name on the jacket so I got "Janitor" put on the sleeve. When Syvlan received his jacket, he chuckled and wore it with pride for many more years. When the company grew to a size that we needed additional office equipment. RGO Equipment's super salesman came over to do a presentation. I asked Sylvan to be present during the presentation because this was going to be a capital expense and I did not have the experience or authority to approve such a purchase. Sylvan happen to be wearing his "Janitor" jacket the day the super salesman came. When the young man came in, he looked around and noticed Sylvan sitting in the corner quitely. Then he asked the "janitor" to leave because the presentation was for the office staff. I could not believe it! Sylvan got up and excused himself, walked past the salesman and turned to me indicating that I should see everything. The salesman ended up demonstrating all of the office equipment which took a couple of hours. When the time came to choose which product and sign on the bottom line. I had to inform him that I did not have the authority to make such a purchase. So he asked who could, I replied " the janitor". The sale never happened. Sylvan was a kind, generous, humble, quite, hardworking, intelligent man with a quirky sense of humor who liked a practical joke. I am proud to say that I knew Sylvan.LInda KingCalgary, AB

I am so sorry for your loss. Sylvan was a kind, caring man. I served him for many years at Majors bar and grill for breakfast. I remember one day in particular shortly after I had given birth to my daughter and I served him and he said" You are back working already?" and I responded with a smile " Diapers get expensive!" He chuckled and when he went to leave he handed me $15.00 and said this is for the diapers. He always made me smile and his kindness and jokes will truly be missed. Renae Culver

Sylvan was one of the most generous and kind people I have worked for; his passion and dedication for his airline along with a wry sense of humour made him a great person to spend time with. I will truly miss him and wish his family the joy of fond memories.
