I was looking at all the kind words and stories about my Omi today.....my son came up and asked what I was doing? I explained to him what I was reading - that people that cared about Gross Omi write a memory of her or light a candle in her memory. He decided he wanted to write her a letter. This is it.... May 8, 2015Hello Gross Omi,I love you Gross Omi. I like shopping with you at stores and being your big helper.Gross Omi, I wish you would not have died. It makes me sad.Gross Omi, I like your house. It is pretty cool, but you will not be there anymore....so now I can ride your exercise bike.Your heart stopped beating and you can not see and you can not talk, but you are very special.Love Simon (great grandson)

Lotte was such a presence in my life and I always viewed her as a woman ahead of her time. It seemed there was nothing she couldn't do if she put her mind to it. She and my mother were the best of friends and one of my fondest memories was a rare occasion when Lotte's efforts came up short. She loved my mother's liver dumplings and one day she was determined to make them herself. My mother shared her recipe and off Lotte went to recreate this Austrian delicacy. Some time later, Lotte complained that she followed the recipe exactly but those dumplings just didn't taste the same. She and my mom went through the ingredients and steps one at a time and when they came to the end, there was a long silence and then that unmistakable laugh that seemed to go on forever. It turned out that she had forgotten one very important indigent - the liver! They laughed till they cried and, while I don't know why that particular memory stands out, it makes me smile to think about it. Lotte was always so confident, straight forward and generous and and genuine role model for girls who were unsure of their place in the world. Many have gone before her and if there is a heaven, those waiting for her will know she's arrived when they hear her iconic, "Hello there" Rest in peace, Lotte.

I have fond memories of Lotte from years ago, first when she was a customer of mine at Overwaitea, later when I was a customer of hers and I also remember her as a great supporter of the SPCA. I could always have a great chat with her, especially about our mutual love of flying and we always parted with a smile. I'll always remember her with admiration and fondness.A candle was lit

As another chapter of her and our lives ends, I can't help but think another begins. I don't know if I will miss my Mom, but it is in times like these, I reflect of past experiences and it does my heart good to realize how many there actually were. Most importantly though, right, wrong or indifferent, she got to live her last years on her terms. Equally important I believe, other than the short stay in hospital, her last experiences were in familiar surroundings. Just recently she remarked, "See my pellets" and looking to my right, there were several bags of pellets for the stove, two rows neatly organized, labels to front. Those are the kind of things that were important to Mom.Do we know anything definitively about death, probably not, but that my sister, son & I were able to be there in the last moments, I can only hope that made it a little easier for her. As I re-read this text, I think to myself, if the opportunity presented itself where I could choose a mother, would I choose Lotte and I can't think of a reason why I wouldn't.Love Peter

She told me that one day she would have a look at our Pool in the back yard. I kept asking when she was going to do that? One sunny afternoon I was enjoying the pool and noticed Lottie towing Frank in the glider, as soon as she released him I could see her coming down towards the back yard with her plane. She called me later that day and said " I looked at your Pool today" etc....Awesome Lady, she will be missed.Ilona
