Obituary
Kathy Stamatelakis was born on December 23, 1943 in Kroustas, Crete, Greece and passed away on May 20, 2021 at home surrounded by her family after a brave battle with Cancer.
In 1970, she married Tim and their adventures together brought them to Canada. She was a brave person to give up life as she knew it in the beautiful, sunny country of Greece to move to the freezing, snowy landscape of Inuvik, NWT. Tim and Kathy had been married for 50 years and are an example of a truly loving and supportive marriage.
She made the best of everything that was thrown at her. She was a great example of where hard work will get you. She always taught her family to work hard and try their best and the sky was the limit. She loved working at the family business of Northern Light Restaurant and volunteering in the community; it brought her joy to help in any way she could. Most recently she was a proud volunteer with both the Association for Community Living as well as Special Olympics. She enjoyed many hobbies and was always content to create something that would bring joy to other people. She loved the summer season filled with the beautiful flowers she would grow. She had an appreciation for nature and being outdoors. She was passionate about painting, and family and friends are blessed with many items from canvas to rocks that showcase her artwork. Loving memories that she has gifted to us.
Her greatest passion was her family. Kathy was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and cousin. There is family all over the world feeling the loss. She gave her all to her family. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family: her husband Tim; daughter Angela (John) Telford, grandsons Noah and Bryce Telford; son Demetrios (Tanis) Stamatelakis, grandsons Isaac and Xander Stamatelakis.
Kathy was predeceased by her daughter, Maria Stamatelakis. They are together in heaven watching over us.
Expressions of Sympathy, may be sent in memory of Kathy to the FSJ Association for Community Living (click to donate) or Special Olympics Fort St. John (click to donate).
We would like to take this opportunity to express how grateful we are for those who supported our family. We are thankful for the kind words and time that has been given to us by the people in our lives. We would like to thank Kathy’s team of doctors, nurses, home support, who were patient with us and were always available for questions. Dr. Wright and Dr. Boyer provided guidance to us all and made it possible for my mother’s wishes to be at home a reality.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lido Theatre on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
