Obituary of Ernie Reimer

Obituary Ernest Reimer was born in 1931 in Agassiz, BC, to Abram and Liese Reimer as the fourth of five children. He grew up in Abbotsford, where he finished high school before attending UBC to finish his BA and to do a year of teaching training. To start his career he volunteered with Mennonite Central Committee as a principal at a school in Baie Vert, Newfoundland. Here he met his wife, Leona (Fast). Together they lived and taught in Fort McPerson, NWT, Abbotsford and finally settled in Fort St. John in 1964. Ernie was a high school teacher, Vice Principal, Principal, Director of Instruction and finally Superintendent of schools with SD #60. Ernie retired from the school district in 1989 and went on to be a faculty associate with SFU, a counselor with Burden Bearers and then moved to Lithuania (1994), helping the MB Missions to found a Liberal Arts college. He moved back to Fort St John in 1997. Ernie continued to help with missions, church administration and counseling and finally retired at the age of 90. Ernest and Leona had five children, Elsa, Carl, Marla, Anita and Lora. Ernie’s wife, Leona, passed away in 1978 and he was remarried to Elfrieda (Unruh) in 1980. He has 17 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Leona, his brother Helmut, his son-in-law David, his daughter-in-law Merna and many brothers and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Elfrieda, all his children (and their spouses), grandchildren (and their spouses) and great grandchildren as well as his sisters Hedy and Elizabeth and his brother David. Ernie has left an amazing legacy behind with his family, school commitments and the numerous personal connections he made in missions and with counseling. As a teen he made a decision to dedicate his life to his savior, Jesus, and this influenced every decision he made through his life. He will be greatly missed.
