Obituary of Elsie Okrainec

With great sadness we announce the passing of Elsie Okrainec. Elsie was born July 7, 1933 and passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024 at the age of 91.
Elsie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Elsie touched countless lives over the years and lived a life full of purpose, kindness and strength.
Elsie was born in the hamlet of Thorhild, Alberta. She married John Okrainec in 1953. Together they lived in various communities in Alberta before settling in Fort St. John in the early 1960’s. Elsie was an active golfer and bowler. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, jigsaw puzzles and playing crib. She loved nothing more than tending to her garden and flower bed and enjoyed her long walks around the neighborhood. In her later years, she enjoyed playing competitive shuffleboard when wintering in Mesa, Arizona.

Elsie had three children, David (Donna), Craig (Pam) and Steven (Maria). Elsie will be missed by her loving sister Eve, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Elsie was predeceased by her parents Peter and Tekla, brothers Nick and Steve, son David, daughter-in-law Pam, and her husband John, whom she has now been reunited with.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Elsie’s caregivers and dear friends for their compassionate care and support over the last year and a half.

A Celebration of Life will be held May 2, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Fort St. John Alliance Church.
