Allister "Al" Scobie

1950-2024

It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Al Scobie of Pink Mountain at 74 years of age.

Al was born 19 July 1950 to parents Clarke and Winnie Scobie of High River, AB. As a youngster he came north to Cecil Lake BC with his family of six. Brother Jack (Barb) Scobie. Sisters Lee Scobie and Tess (Howard) Davidson. 

Al attended school in Cecil lake until the family moved again in 1962 to the upper Halfway Valley known as McFarlane Flats. Here he finished his grades by correspondence schooling. Al thrived on the freedom to fish, trap and ride his horses everywhere. They were first Pretty, Fritz, Beauty Queen and then later, Flare and Crisco. A real variety of colors and personalities. 

Later all things with an engine took his attention. Trucks and tractors were his world. Ski-dooing became his passion and he did very well in short and long distance competitions, with a John Deere ski-doo!

His signature red early 70's model Ford pickup was his mode of transport right to the end. Kept running by himself with skills he acquired in Heavy Duty Mechanics in Dawson Creek Vocational School. Skills that served him well in his job with Westcoast Energy, then as a rancher and large equipment operator (grader, cat, backhoe, loader, etc). He enjoyed adding another piece of equipment to complete his large inventory. His roads were well maintained to excellent standards as a result of all his equipment. Oil Companies hired him to do lease work and road maintenance.

Joh Deere tractors were plentiful around Al's place. An impressive lineup of old and new. To keep it all running was both a pleasure and a source of frustration. 

In 1993 he met and married Dianne Drschiwiski. They moved their holdings 'up the hill' and created a beautiful cattle ranch. Dianne worked right along with Al and also was the very important admin/book keeper for the business. 

Back when we were kids, listening to the local CKNL radio, an ad used to play often by Fort Motors. The jingle wnet something like, "This is Ford Country---What do you drive?" It never failed to get an enthusiastic shout from Al, "FORD!!"
