Obituary of Mary Eleanor Hastings

Mary Eleanor Hastings ( Moffat)

Mary was  born on June 16, 1935, the eldest child of Lawrence and Dorothy Moffat. She grew up on a farm near Codette, Saskatchewan. Mary moved to Saskatoon to pursue a career and study to be a seamstress. It was there that she met and married Robert ( Roy) Hastings on January 31,1958. They continued to live in Saskatoon and were soon joined by sons David and John.

In 1962, They purchased land, sight unseen, in the Buick Creek area of Northern BC to pursue their dream of farming. Four more children joined the family, Dorothy, Keith, Leta and Allan. They continued farming until they retired to Fort St John.

Mary put her skills to use. She made most of her children's clothing, including grad dresses and a wedding dress. She also loved gardening. She could grow anything, but her joy was flowers. Her house was always filled with beautiful plants. She won many awards for her gardening.

Mary passed away May 22,2024.

She was predeceased by her parents. Her brothers Don and Ed and baby sister Ruth. Her daughter in law, Kathy.

She is survived by her 6 children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
