Obituary of Gordon Ray

It is with heavy hearts we the family announce the passing of Gordon Ray, at the age of 92 years of age.

Gordon Ray, born in Innisfield, Alberta on December 18, 1931, left this world on April 1, 2024, in Campbell River, British Columbia. He was predeceased by his father George Ray, Mother Eva (Graf) Ray, and his best friend and wife of 18 years, Ruth Rondella (Della) Ray (Nee Campbell). Being the youngest of 11 children, Gordon was predeceased by many loved ones and dear friends.

Gordon is survived by his daughters Valerie McWilliam (Yogi-Russell), Carol Purkis (Larry), Lee-Anne Ray (Stan), and son Kelly Ray (Linda). He is also survived by his stepsons Jeff Campbell and Brian Campbell, along with their families. Gordon leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, who will cherish his memory forever.

Gordon had a passion for travel, especially to Hawaii and Nashville, and had a deep love for country music. He was always good for a good story, and loved telling jokes, and teasing others. After the loss of his beloved wife Della and facing health challenges, Gordon made the decision to relocate to Campbell River to be close to his family. He found comfort and joy at Ironwood Place, where he made new friends and received exceptional care. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his daughter Carol, and the love they shared was truly special.

Gordon dedicated his career to the art of barbering, and he was a master of his craft. His career was more than just a profession - it was a lifelong passion. For many years, he welcomed countless individuals into his chair, not just to receive a haircut, but to share in the warmth of his company and the wisdom of his words. He took great pride in his work and he cherished the connections he made.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date in Vernon, BC, where Gordon will be laid to rest beside his loving wife Della at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Gordon will be remembered for his love of life, his devotion to family, and his kind and gentle spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
