Obituary of Teresa Mary Walsh

Obituary It is with sadness that we announce the death of our mother Teresa Walsh (nee MacNeil). Mom was born in Sydney Nova Scotia on June 6, 1932, and died peacefully at the Fort St. John hospital on September 19, 2023. Teresa trained as a nurse at St. Martha's College in Antigonish, Nova Scotia where she met Pat. They were married in 1958. The Cape Breton girl and her groom migrated to British Columbia, first in Vancouver, where her first son, Kevin was born in 1959. They moved north to Fort St. John in 1960 and they made the small town their home. Four more children followed and Teresa lovingly cared for her family until 1982 when she enrolled in a nursing program at BCIT to upgrade her skills and returned to nursing. Teresa retired as the nursing supervisor of the Peace Lutheran Care Home in 1997 following Pat's death. Teresa volunteered for many community organizations including the Canadian Cancer Society, the Library Board, Planned Parenthood, and the CWL among others. She was awarded the Mayor's Citizen of the Year Award in 2005 for her contributions to her community. She is survived by her children Kevin (Cheryl), Kathleen (Charles), Michael, and Keith (Christine); grandchildren Lindsey (Lidan), Mark (Sheena), Jeremy (Kate), Declan, Caden & Liam; and five great grandchildren. Teresa was predeceased by her husband Pat Walsh and son Sean Walsh. A funeral service will be held at the Church of the Resurrection on Thursday September 28 at 11:00 am, followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at Immaculata Centre. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Teresa’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
