Obituary of Avon Georgene Smith
The family of Avon Georgene Smith wish to share that she entered into the presence of God on October 14, 2023.
Avon was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on December 20, 1935 to George and Avon McLeod, the 5th of 7 children. Her father fought in WW1 and succumbed to those effects when Avon was 4 years old, after which her mother raised the family on a teacher’s salary.
Avon was married at the tender age of 17 to Dalvin Hubert Smith in Macdowall, Saskatchewan and then moved out to Vancouver, B.C. While in that area, Opal, Ron and Julie were born. Dalvin’s work took them to Hixon, B.C. in 1959 and it was there Richard and Brent were born to complete their family. His work again moved them to Fort St. John in 1967. Avon worked as a substitute teacher, office admin and finally as a successful realtor in Fort St. John.
Serious medical complications in 2011 altered her life, and she made a valiant effort to enjoy life in spite of those challenges. These complications ultimately challenged her very life. She spent her last days telling family, friends and caregivers how much she loved them.
Avon is predeceased by her parents, sisters Thelma, Barbara, Marilyn, and by her brothers Wilfred and Lorne. She is also predeceased by husband Dalvin, son Brent, and daughter-in-law Karen.
Leaving to mourn are her children Opal (Wayne) Hansen, Ron (Janice) Smith, Julie (Ivan) Kornelsen, Richard (Ingela) Larsson-Smith, daughter-in-law Cheryl, sister Fay Jensen, 13 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
By her express wish there will be no funeral. The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone involved in her care (medical staff, Peace Villa, Heritage Manor 2, NP Seniors Housing) and to all her friends, some of whom have already left this life.
