Obituary of Don Goodfellow
Obituary Donald GoodfellowJune 16, 1929- November 23, 2007Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta Don grew up on the family farm in thedepression years of the 1930's. Don loved farming, it was his passion for years. When he was 15 he went to work on the Q ranch for the winter, where he was thechore boy and milked cows early morning and late nights, but he loved it. In 1945when he was 16 with his dad, mom, and younger brother, they left Medicine Hatleaving his two older brothers and one sister behind, and came to the North Peace.Once in Fort St. John his dad and mom bought the water delivery business off ofErnie Carrier. Don delivered the water by buckets into barrels in the community.Don met and fell in love with his soul mate Rose (Dart) Goodfellow and the twowere married on June 29, 1951. After they married Don and Rose moved to thefarm in Murdale where they started their family Luicille (Claudette), Guy (Jean),and Jay (Pauline). They stayed on the farm until 1969 when they bought a houseand moved to Fort St. John. Don bought two trucks to haul grain, cattle, andwhatever the farmers wanted hauled Don would haul it. But Don didn't like livingin town and purchased a hobby farm of 21 acres in Grandhaven. Don then workedfor various ranches in the area. Eventually he landed a job with Alex Smetniuk onthe garbage truck, where he worked with his son Guy and his wife Rose forseveral years before he started with the city public works, where he stayed until hisretirement at 65. Anyone who knew Don knew he was a straight shooter and a noB.S kind of guy. He believed in a days work for a days pay. He will be sadlymissed by his wife, three children, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren,many nieces and nephews, and anyone who really knew him. If so desired in memory of Don, expressions of sympathy can be made to the North Peace Care Center or the Alzheimer?s Support Group.
