Obituary of Neil Thompson

Obituary Gordon Neil Thompson was born in Pouce Coupe on June 8, 1954, the 5th child of Con and Jean Thompson. When Neil was 2 years old, his father became ill & was debilitated forthe remaining 11 years of his life.Consequently, Mom Jean went to work teaching school to support thefamily. This resulted in Neil gaining a wealth of knowledge from all who had a hand in raising him & put a lot of people at the mercy of his mischievous ways.Neil entered the work force at an early age. With his unique sense of humor and trademark twinkle in his eye, he often boasted that by the age of 13 he was peddling drugs in Vancouver,- actually, he was hired by a Pharmacy to deliver prescriptions by bicycle to the elderly.Over the years his various job descriptions ranged from bike courier, gas jockey, swamper, truck driver, well operator, partner in oilfield services, to oilfield consultant with farming & ranching thrown in on the side.In spite of a heavy workload, Neil also found time for other interests, amechanical breakdown of his truck while in Fort Nelson allowed him time to participate in the winter rendezvous where he was particularlyimpressed by a member of the women's hockey team ....Less than a year later, on Dec 27/1975 Neil married Marion Wiles. After a winters work in Fort Nelson the newly weds moved on totheir quarter section at Cecil Lake, where they fixed up the old Kemphouse. There were a few surprises such as snakes hanging from theceiling over a warm stove, bats & bees in the wall, and a pack rat in the frying pan following an unscheduled kitchen remodel with a D6, while Neil was landscaping , but all were taken in stride as they built their life together. On Oct 3,1977, their daughter Amber was born and was followed 15months later by their son Kirk on Jan 5,1979. The arrival of Ashley onJan 25,1983 rounded out Neil and Marion's family until Tom and Amber added grand babies Casey Rae and Trayton who brought so much enjoyment to ?Papa Neil "Family was always the most important part of Neil?s life, his wife, children, nieces and nephews always knew they were unique andspecial to him. When he came home after a busy winter of oilfieldtrucking to find that his infant son didn't recognize him, he promptlychanged jobs to spend more time with his family. Round-up, brandingand boxing day celebrations with family and friends were always special events for Neil.Neil was very proud and supportive of his wife and 3 kids and theiractivity in summer and winter sports , but he also took great pleasure in his own athletic pursuits which included hockey ,ball and golf. Neil was famous for his unique ability to throw a slow pitch strike. His golf swing which somehow he accomplished with both feet off the ground was legendary .Whether at work or play he was seldom seen without a coffee cup or thermos close at hand and, when away from family, a cell phone tucked to his ear.Neil lived life to the fullest and with intensity, enjoying every step of theway ..
