Obituary of Alice Smith

Obituary Alice Angeline (Parker) Smith was born November 4, 1910 to Herbert and Jenny Parker in Norham, Ontario. She was the third youngest of 11 children and enjoyed a close family relationship with her parents and siblings all her life. At the age of 6 her family moved west and settled in the Onoway area west of Edmonton, Alberta.Alice was a true pioneer, traveling north to the Montney area of the North Peace in 1932 to help her brother Jack and his wife Dolly. She was ferried across the Peace River in a row boat with the ice flowing around them and never batted an eye. She met Emmett Smith at a baseball tournament later that summer and they married 4 years later. They spent 71 happy years together until she passed away February 29, 2008. They had 3 daughters, 9 grandchildren (one of whom is deceased) and 11 great grandchildren with another to arrive in July.As a girl Alice loved to run like the wind and if there was money to be won in the races at a community picnic, she won it. She loved to skate and play softball with siblings and friends. As a wife she loved to fish, hunt and especially pick berries.Alice helped run the E.E. Smith General Store at North Pine and when they quit that venture 17 years later she had more time to devote to her creative side by flower gardening, oil painting and any new craft there was. She was a great seamstress, making costumes for school functions and most of the clothes for her family and others.Alice was a wonderful cook and canned everything from fruit to moose and caribou meat. She never backed away from any job, be it helping to butcher a moose or nursing the wounded of the community.Alice attended the United Church at North pine all the years she lived there and was very active in the W.I. and the Fair Board. Our hearts go out to Emmett who lost his life partner the day before his 99th birthday. We will all miss her caring and warmth. She passed away, as she did everything, with dignity and grace. Services
