Obituary of Sam Powell
Obituary Sam was born in 1930 at the Red Cross Hospital in Grand Haven. He was raised with nine brothers and sisters at Sunny Side Beach in Charlie Lake. Sam had manyfond memories of his childhood.Sam attended school in Charlie Lake, then High School in Fort St. John. When he quit school, he went to work for brother's Pen, Garry and Jack hauling lumber from their saw mills to Dawson Creek. He also hauled coal from the KingGething Coal mine in Hudson's Hope for Tompkins. At that time he met and married Celie Gardner, they had 4 children, Dwayne, Joanne, Cindy, and Kevin.He then drove truck from Dawson Creek to Fort Nelson, hauling aviation fuel for his Dad. Later on Sam bought his Dad's truck plus two new trucks and hired many other trucks until the fuel haul was over. He then went into partnership with his brother Hubert and formed a company called Lake End Service. He eventually sold his share of Lake End Service.Sam and Al Hamilton rented a shop and went into the mechanic business called P & H Repair Service. When Al sold his share of the business to Celie for one Dollar,Sam built his own shop and did mechanic work there for thirteen years. When that was sold, he was a mechanic at Ken Jackson's shop, Gordon Meek's shop, and Bill Tomkins shop.Sam loved to hunt and fish, he had his own jet boat and made many trips up the Muskwa River, Elk hunting. Sam had lots of friends who loved his sense of humour.The last ten years until Sam's retirement, he drove his own gravel truck, building leases' for Oil Company's and thoroughly enjoyed working for Greg Wilson at Tracker. Sam eventually sold his truck to Greg when he decided to retire. Sam suffered from Alzheimer's disease and as devastating as it was, he still had his sense of humour and we still got lots of laughs.Sam was predeceased by his Mother, Father, Brother's Howard, Pen, Garry and Jack. Sister's Dorcas, Peg and Barbara. He was also predeceased by his granddaughter Dawn.Sam is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Celie. Children Dwayne Powell, Joanne Mackenzie, Cindy & Mike Horyza, and Kevin & Jackie Powell. 10 Grandchildren, Kelly, Cody, Jarred, Dean, Jamie, Kendal, Lanna, Ross, Ashleyand Parker. 7 great grandchildren and Brother Hubert and Sister Audrey.Goodbye Sam?Till we meet again!
