Obituary of Eleanor Metz

Obituary Eleanor Jean Metz was born on August 14, 1942 in Swan River, Manitoba to parents Charles and Nellie. What a perfect place with a beautiful name for her to be born unto this world, as she herself truly was beautiful! One thing we all have in common is knowing that with her name is its association with a very big heart. Any one of us would have a hard time and be pressed to find another person that had so many call her "Mum". It was an appropriate name as it instils feelings of empathy, compassion and trustworthiness! Empathy; she was able to project herself into your spot and for that was incredibly fair. She didn?t play favourites and knew that there were two sides to every story. With that if someone did deserve heck she would give it to them, regardless of who it was or who's kids they were. Compassion; whether it be a family member, someone at work or whomever, she would most importantly be open, listen and also did what she could to help. Trustworthiness; it would probably be pretty frightening how many secrets she took with her and never shared. Another feeling often instilled with a mum is "a warm home". Her hospitality was top notch. If there was a BBQ or dinner and knew someone wasn?t up to anything, there was an open invitation for them to come on over. Even to have a coffee and a visit, her door was always open. There certainly was no one having to go hungry with her around either. When the kids, grandkids or anyone was staying with her it seemed like they would gain 20 lbs! How do you not fall in love or get enough of that woman?s baking? It only makes sense her favourite little character was the Pillsbury Doughboy! Family bonding is an interesting phrase. She was the glue that held family and family ties together. Her family being together and happy is what she loved and wanted most in this world. The times spent in the country brought a lot of relaxation and smiles. It seemed that?s when she was happiest and the most at ease. As important as family was to her, the trips made with friends ran a close 2nd. Going overseas and being able to see the women?s curling championships were highlights and very important to her. She spoke of these trips in particular often and I know cherished them greatly. Eleanor emphasized how important it was to spend time with the ones we love, doing the things we love and wished she had done it more. Curling was such an important part of Eleanor?s life that even in her final days spent in hospital, she was NOT to be moved rooms or pretty much disturbed in any way if there was curling on TV. The men and women both taking gold this year made her happy and was a nice going away present, thank you team Canada. Eleanor was also a hockey fan, her favourite player being Tiger Williams. She took after him too! For the lover that she was she could be a real fighter as well! The announcement ?visiting hours are over? came on in the Hospital. Eleanor closed her eyes and went to sleep knowing we are all "just visiting". Please don?t be sad, fret, or worry. When we're done our own visiting and leave this place, I'm sure there will be the smells of baking and Mum there to greet us warmly. Now that will be heaven! Services
