Obituary of Sharon Simmonds
Obituary Sharon Gaye Simmonds was born March 17, 1947 in Prince George, British Columbia to parents Arther and Rose Switzer. Sharon was the 8th child, all being raised in the Prince George area. In 1963 at the age of sixteen Sharon met Roy Simmonds who she would be with until Roy's passing in 2007. Sharon and Roy began their family with Shauna in 1967, James in 1968, followed by Jennifer in 1971. After having their children Sharon and Roy were married on June 26, 1971 in Prince George. Sharon spent most of her life living in Prince George, devouring her time either in her vegetable of flower garden. Sharon was a lover of the Edmonton Oilers and hockey in general. Many nights you could find Sharon in front of the television in her favorite chair yelling at the Oilers on how to play the game. Sharon loved animals of all sorts, often adopting stray cats or dogs into the family. Sharon was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2004, and shortly after decided to move back to Fort St. John to be closer with her family. Sharon and Roy bought a trailer in the Montney area, were it was quiet and Sharon could watch the wildlife. We will never forget the night Roy was sick in the hospital and we finally convinced Sharon to go home and get a good night sleep. The next morning there was Sharon standing there armed with a broom and a baseball bat, with all the doors blocked shut. Sharon explained that when she was sleeping she felt something wet on her nose. Thinking it was the dog she told her to go lie down. When the licking didn't stop she opened her eyes only to find a weasel staring back at her. Sharon grabbed a broom to chase the weasel outside when it stood up on its hind legs and making noises Sharon didn't like. That's when the bat came out. Sharon started swinging eventually connecting sending the weasel flying off the end of the bat and out the door. That was one weasel who would never bother Sharon again. Sharon told her family in April that her cancer had returned. Sadly on November 6, 2008 Sharon passed away. Sharon will be greatly missed and always remembered by all who knew and loved her.
