Obituary of Harold Esau

Obituary Harold Arlie Esau passed away at the age of 84 years on April 2, 2009, at the Pouce Care Home in Pouce Coupe, BC. Harold was born on March 2, 1925, at Rosthern, Saskatchewan, the eldest of 4 surviving children, to William D. Esau and Aganetha (Andres) Esau. Harold grew up on a farm and his early schooling was at Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. Later he attended a year of Bible college at the Canadian Bible College, then in Regina, Saskatchewan. From there, he enrolled at Millar Memorial Bible Institute in Pambrun, Saskatchewan. There he met his future wife, Anne Hildebrandt. They were married in August 1948. Harold and Anne moved to the Fort St. John, BC, area in the mid-1950s, and eventually Harold began his own business as a contractor in Fort St.John, specializing in moving gravel, sand, dirt, and snow as well as digging basements, etc. Harold also enjoyed music, church involvements, and sports, particularly hockey. Harold and Anne had 8 children as well as a stillborn son. Subsequent to Anne's death in 1973, Harold married her widowed sister, Christine, in 1974. They enjoyed their music-making, their award-winning Arabian horses, and their family and friends. Winning a couple of awards at fiddling competitions was a special thrill for Harold. He also played a major role in starting the Evangelical Free Church in Fort St. John.Christine passed away in April 1998. Harold is survived by 7 children: Gwen Funk (Fred), Evelyn Dyck (Carl), Cherolyn Scobie (Ron), Myron Esau (Linda), Norman Esau (Karen), Marilyn Esau, and Arlie Esau (Melanie); 20 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren including 2 on the way. He is likewise survived by his second wife's children, Stanley Friesen (Lois), Russell Friesen (Joy), Eleanor Settle (Gordon), and Carl Friesen as well as their children. He is also survived by his brothers, Ken Esau (Doreen) and Maynard Esau (Carole), and his sister Delphine Williams (Jim) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves to mourn his passing his friend and caretaker, Mary Campbell. Harold was predeceased by his first wife, Anne; his daughter, Carolyn (Pustanyk); a stillborn son; a daughter-in-law, Brenda (Myron) Esau; his 2nd wife, Christine; 4 brothers in infancy; his parents, William and Aganetha Esau; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine (Maynard) Esau. Funeral services for Harold were held April 7, 2009, at the Evangelical Free Church in Fort St. John with Rev. Art Voth officiating. Pianist was Dee Peters, the tribute done by Don Wollen. Mr. Wollen also read "Memories of Our Dad, Our Grandfather," prepared by Harold's children and grandchildren. Special music was supplied by Harold's family.Pallbearers were his grandsons Colin Scobie, Wiley Scobie, Vincent Esau, Jason Esau, Philip Dyck, and Terry Dyck. Ushers were Harold's nephews Elvern Esau, Bradley Esau, Greg Esau, and Rob Esau. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery at Fort St. John, BC. In Harold's memory, donations can be made to the Darren Almond Memorial Travel Foundation or charity of choice. Hamre's Funeral Chapel was in charge of funeral arrangements. Services
