Obituary of Viola Martin

Obituary Viola Maria Martin was born September 14, 1914, the middle child of three born to Olaf and Thea Levin in Valor, Saskatchewan.She attended school in Bruce and spent her early years helping her dad with the outside work and farming. In 1931 the family left the dust bowl and headed for the Peace River Country. Their possessions were shipped by train to Dawson Creek where they were off-loaded. Viola drove the team to their homestead in Murdale.In those early years Viola worked for the Donis family in Fort St. John and at the Hagen Store in Montney.On July 10, 1935 she married Clay Martin. They raised three sons; John, Clayton and Gordon. Viola lead a busy life on the farm growing a large garden, raising and selling chickens etc. She was a dedicated member of the Montney W.I. and served on the Fall Fairboard and many other volunteer efforts.In 1966 Clay and Viola moved to Parksville, Vancouver Island to retire to flowers and a small orchard. She cooked for several years in the Seniors Home there. Clay passed away in 1975 and Viola moved back to the Peace Country and family in 1979. She lived in Dawson Creek for several years then moved back to an apartment in Fort St. John. At the age of 79 Viola's life took a different turn with the onset of poor health. She moved to the North Peace Care Home for the next 15 ½ years. During this time she knitted numerous afghans for others, enjoyed crosswords, bingo and cards. Viola passed peacefully from this life on August 6, 2009 with her family by her side. Viola leaves to mourn her sons John (Elsie), Clay (Katie), and Gordon, (Dianne), her daughter-in-law Bonnie (Jim), her grandchildren, Connie, Grant (Cheryl), and Chance, her great grandchildren Spencer and Keira, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clay, sister Elsie, brother Karl and parents Olaf and Thea Martin. Viola leaves a very large hole in our lives, but we are so fortunate to have had her for 94 years.
