Obituary of Don Ostashek
Obituary DONALD WADE OSTASHEK July 28, 1958 - November 01, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Wade Ostashek (Donny) announces that Donny passed away quietly and peacefully on Sunday, November 01, 2009 in Fort McMurray, Alberta at the age of 51. Donny was born on July 28, 1958 in Fort St. John, BC to parents Nick and Lydia Ostashek. Donny was the oldest of four children. Growing up in Fort St. John he enjoyed playing hockey, golfing, skiing, bowling and Army Cadets. He loved being outdoors and was always happiest when fishing, especially fly-fishing. Donny graduated from North Peace Senior Secondary School in June, 1977 and shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy with posting to Esquimalt BC and Halifax NS. He served on several different ships and was trained as a ship's electrician. Donny travelled the world while serving his country. He came home from each new journey with wonderful memories and a new tattoo to remind him of his travels. Donny rose to the rank of Leading Seaman and in 1986; he left the Navy with an Honourable Discharge. Donny returned to Fort St. John and continued with his electrical training. He received his provincial and inter-provincial tickets as a Journeyman Electrician and worked in both the construction and oil and gas industries throughout northern BC and Alberta. Donny will be missed and fondly remembered by his entire extended family and his friends but he was loved the most and will be missed the most by his loving parents, Nick and Lydia Ostashek of Tumbler Ridge, BC, his three brothers, Terry (Koreena) of Prince George, BC, Wesley (Sandra) of Fort St. John, BC and Kevin (Christine) of Comox, BC and by his grandmother, Lena Ostashek of Lamont, Alberta. Donny loved children and they loved him. He was a terrific 'Uncle" and will be greatly missed by his nephews, Christopher (Melissa) of Fort St. John BC, Shaun of Fort St. John BC and Cooper of Comox BC as well as by his great-nephew Cayden and great-niece Haylee of Fort St. John BC. A funeral was held in Donny's honour on November 09, 2009 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Fort St. John Branch. Captain Lippers of the Fort St. John Salvation Army officiated with Donny's brother Terry providing a Eulogy. The Legion Branch provided an Honour Guard for the service. Long-time family friend Donna Schafer played piano. Donny loved the bagpipes and a solitary bagpiper, Brandon Rouble played in his honour. Funeral services were provided by Hamre's Funeral Chapel. The family requests that any expressions of sympathy may be made to the Fort St. John Poppy Fund, the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Fund or the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation. Donny has gone across the oceanto the shore of evergreen.We long to see his dear smiling facebut deep waters flow between Someday, somehow, we shall seethe face we loved so well.Someday we'll clasp his loving hand and never say farewell Donny was our son, our brother, our uncle, our grandson and our friend. We love you, Donny. You will live in our hearts forever. Rest in Peace! The Ostashek Family
