Obituary of Lynn Volz
Obituary Lynn Stephen Volz was born May 2, 1946 in Hettinger, North Dakota. He was the 14th of 15 children. In 1968, Lynn and his brothers Leo and Jim staked their homesteads in P.J. Lynn moved onto his land in 1974. Lynn and June were married on December 29, 1978 in weather much like this. Cara was born on May 11, 1980 and Kristi followed on May 20, 1983.Lynn was a gentle man in every sense of the expression. Lynn's family was the center of his life. He was very proud of both of his daughters. You only had to look at June's face when he talked of them to know this. Second to his family Lynn enjoyed working with horses. He also enjoyed working with his backhoe and tractors. It is impossible to imagine anyone who would not like Lynn. Although he was quiet and reserved, he was always friendly and cheerful. Even if he did not feel well, you could tell this only by the colour of his face or by the way June would scold him to take things easier. He was always ready to help anyone who needed assistance and never expected anything in return. In remembering Lynn and talking about him with his friends and family, one thing which we all appreciate about Lynn was his quiet yet wicked sense of humor.June and the girls would like to thank all of the friends who helped Lynn, especially during the last few years when he was less able to work physically. They are especially appreciative of the way they worked with Lynn in such a way that he didn't feel he couldn't do things. They would like to give a special thanks to Al Kramer. June recalls Lynn telling her how he and Al had "fixed the tractor" with June knowing that Al would have done most of the work while Lynn supervised. Special thanks also to Tom, Verna and the boys Justin, Wade and Jordi (his hunting buddy) for always being there for Lynn and June.Perhaps because Lynn struggled with a life threatening condition, Lynn enjoyed each day and was one of the few people who lived "in the present". It is hard to accept that Lynn is no longer with us. We say that the hour of death cannot be forecast, but when we say this we imagine the hour as placed in an obscure and distant future. It never occurs to us that it has any connection with the day already begun or that death could arrive this same afternoon, this afternoon which is so certain and which has every hour filled in advance. To paraphrase a famous writer, "The death of someone we know reminds us that we are still alive - perhaps for some purpose which we should re-examine." So, while we celebrate Lynn's life, we should remember to try to live life more in the way he did.
