Obituary of Robert W. Bacon

Obituary Robert William (Bob) Bacon1937 - 2010 Robert William (Bob) Bacon was born April 6, 1937 in Hines Creek, Alberta. He was the second of eight children to Eva and Elmer Bacon. They lived in Edmonton, Grande Prairie and the Fairview area. In the summer of '54, the family moved to Fort St John and a year later, Bob started working on the rigs in the Fort St. John area. In 1958, at the age of 21, Bob married Jewel Babcock and they lived in Fort St. John. Bob's dream of having his own farm finally became a reality when they bought land in the Rose Prairie area. Bob had worked for Weatherford Oil Tools until the spring of '67 when Bob and Jewel moved to the new family farm with daughters - Diana, Suzanne, and Linda, and then they had two sons, Rob and Keith. Bob was very community-minded. He volunteered at Rose Prairie Community Hall, Rose Prairie Curling Rink, Upper Pine School, North Pine Fairgrounds, Fort St. John Association for Community Living, and Fort St. John Co-op. Bob also belonged to the Fort St. John Masonic Lodge. In 1978, Bob started Bob's Oilfield Pressure Service, the first pressure testing company north/northwest of Edmonton, which led the way to developing safer standards in the oilfield industry. After buying more land (total 7 quarters), Bob sold his company to stay home and devote all his time to his family and ranching. Even though his siblings lived throughout Alberta, Bob and his brothers and sisters made time to get together for frequent family reunions. Bob gave his children life skills, family values, and work ethics that will be passed on to future generations. He strived to build a legacy and his family is proud of who he was and what he accomplished. At the age of 60, Bob's health deteriorated. He had two brain aneurysms repaired forcing him into early retirement. With more time on his hands, Bob was able to relax, travel, and spend more time with his family . August long weekend, 2008, about 200 family and friends joined Bob and Jewel at their farm to celebrate the 50 wonderful years they were married. Bob passed away the morning of Monday, February 1st, 2010. He was predeceased by his mom and dad; sisters: Annette and Jac'y; and brothers-in-law: Don Watt, and Doug Babcock. He is survived by his loving wife, Jewel; daughters: Diana (Eugene), Suzanne (A.J.), and Linda; sons: Rob and Keith; 9 grandchildren: Trevor, Krysta, Ryan, Tiffany, Jeremy, Dylan, Michael, Victoria, and Adam; 3 great grandchildren: Hailey, Anthony, and Leighton; brothers: Ron (Pat), and Gene (Betty); sisters: Myrna, Janis (Ken), and Patti (Rick); brothers-in-law: Rollie and Ron; and sister-in law, Eileen; and, many nieces and nephews.
