Obituary Donna Jean Fines
Donna was born September 16, 1936 in North Vancouver, BC to Donald and Jane Cameron. Donna, along with her younger brother Sandy, grew up in North Van until the family moved to Port Alice, BC in 1950. In 1954, Donna left her family in Port Alice to complete high school in Burnaby, BC. Upon graduation in 1955, her brother and parents moved back to North Van from Port Alice.
After high school, Donna entered the nursing program at St Paul's Hospital and graduated as a
registered nurse in 1958. Upon graduation she crossed the Atlantic on a ship with her good friend Francis where they travelled throughout Europe working for a short period of time in England.
Her first nursing job back home was at Surrey Memorial followed by a period with the Canadian Red Cross. In September 1962, Donna moved to Fort St John, BC with Provincial Public Health where she worked as a public health nurse.
Donna met her lifelong companion, Maurice, shortly thereafter and the two were married
November 1, 1963. The couple settled on the family farm where they raised their two sons, Scott and Cameron. Donna left nursing to raise her young family and became very involved in the music program at St Luke's United Church in Fort St John. She directed many musical productions involving the congregation, and thoroughly enjoyed her many years as choir director and church organist.
Along with her lifelong passion for music, Donna loved to travel and experience the world around her. She and Maurice travelled extensively. Some of her more memorable trips included Egypt, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Europe, the Mediterranean and many warm vacations in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Hawaii.
As Donna's health began to deteriorate she travelled less and focused her energy on another passion, crafts. No child or grandchild was left without a very special personal photo album and scrapbook representing countless hours of work. These keepsakes represent a lifetime of love and pride that no words can express.
Donna is survived by her husband Maurice, sons Scott (Sherri) and Cameron (Tonya), grandchildren Brock, Madison, Paige, and Reid, her brother Sandy (Margaret), sister-in-law Audrey, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Monday, June 6, 2011 at 2:00pm from the St. Luke's United Church in Fort St. John, British Columbia. Donna will be laid to rest at the Woodlawn Cemtery, Fort St. John, BC. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC.
