Obituary of Holly McDonald
Obituary Holly Anne McDonald was born in the Fort St. John Hospital February 8, 1972. She was the youngest daughter of Bill and Sherry McDonald. She was predeceased by her niece, Parke Anne Kjos in March 1996 and her father Bill McDonald in April 2010. She died of stomach cancer on July 12, 2012.
She is survived by her grandmother Jean Mensick, mother Sherry McDonald, sister April (Quinn) Podulsky, brother Laurie McDonald, sister Miriam (Marty) Kjos, 5 nieces, 2 nephews, and 4 great nieces and nephews.
Holly was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at 8 months of age and it was apparent that she would require extensive physiotherapy. There were no facilities in the area to support a child such as Holly, so her mother worked with the province and community to develop the Child Development Centre in Fort St. John.
Holly was always very sociable, she made life-long friends at the CDC pre-school, bravely attended integrated classes at Alwin Holland and enjoyed the last 2 years of her high school in North Peace High.
She enjoyed travelling and when she was 21 she won a trip to Bermuda, where she went with 2 friends. She also travelled to Disneyworld, Los Vegas, and San Diego.
Locally she loved attending concerts at the Cultural Centre, attending her church, riding horseback at the Ride for Disabled and she attended her college group on a daily basis. She loved her caregivers and since most were also roommates, her home always had a party atmosphere.
Life around Holly was always joyous and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Expressions of sympathy can be made in memory of Holly to the Fort St. John Child Development Centre or the Fort St. John Ride for the Disabled.
