Obituary of Ev Hill

Obituary In Loving Memory of Evyline Juliette Hill Her family will always remember Evyline with love and pride: daughter, Julie (Dwayne); and sons, Jay (Leah), Jerry (Cheryl), Richard (Sue) and Donald (Shauna). She also left 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren to remember with deep affection, her loving ways. She was predeceased by her husband Don, brothers Ronald & Raymond Dubeau, great grandson Avery and granddaughter Holly. Evyline was born in St. Paul, Alberta on July 15, 1932. When she was 10, the family moved into the Peace River country and later settled in Taylor, BC where her father established a service station, restaurant and construction company with gravel pit. Working in the family restaurant and shopping in Taylor at Hill's Cash Store, Evyline met a young serviceman, Don Hill. While Don established his farm he courted Evyline and they were married on February 22, 1950. From the restaurant to the kitchen and fields, Evyline worked along side her mate and as the farm grew, so did the family. In 1962 Don and Ev moved into the newly completed farmhouse with their five young children. Ev was very thankful when the boys got old enough to relieve her from driving truck during harvest. In addition to raising five kids, cooking, cleaning, producing a LARGE garden, canning, bringing meals out to the field, etc. etc., Ev found time to enjoy sewing and created several sets of the families' dress clothes that were proudly worn on special occasions. She learned to play the piano as a child and did her best to pass on that love for music to her children. After Ev's mother-in-law, Eva Hill, retired and moved away, Ev took up playing the organ at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Taylor on Sundays. Christmas gatherings always included caroling at the piano. Her greatest love was tending to and serving others, especially her family. Evyline's creed: I shall pass through this world but once. Any good that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again. During the mid eighties Don and Ev became "snowbirds" and began the enjoyable pastime of making many new friends while spending their winters in Arizona. In 1990 they "sort of" retired from the farm and moved into Fort St. John. However, the farm they devoted their lives to building remains in the family to this day. We will forever cherish her charm, good nature and the many happy memories she has given us, especially those pies at harvest time (pumpkin, flapper, lemon meringue, and, and). She will be missed but will live on in our thoughts and in our hearts. Ev passed away on September 12, 2012 at the Fort St. John General Hospital. A Celebration of Ev's life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Charlie Lake Community Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Memory of Evyline to the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
