Obituary of Martin Loewen

Obituary Martin Loewen was born to Abram and Maria (Epp) Loewen in Gruenfeld, Saskatchewan on October 17, 1926. He was the oldest of twelve children of his father's second marriage. He was raised in the Hague area. As a young man, Martin did numerous jobs, including working as a farmhand and building war houses. At the age of 20, he went with his brother Ben and worked at Herman Dick's logging camp in Burn's Lake, British Columbia. During the summer he worked as a camp watchman. His older brothers Ben and George operated their own sawmill in 1948. Martin and his nine brothers worked together at the mill. He came back to Saskatoon in 1951 where he met the love of his life, Nettie Froese. He then left his love for eight months, back to the logging camp, writing letters to each other, not one phone call. He returned in April 1952 and got married on September 28, 1952. He took his young bride back to Burn's Lake for the next three winters and farmed in Clark's Crossing, Saskatchewan during the summer. Martin moved with his family of 6 children, north of Fort St. John to pioneer in 1962. There, he and Nettie worked hard to make a living for his growing family. They lived on the farm for 39 years until their health started to fail and they moved into town. In 2008 Martin had open heart surgery. They sold their house and moved into the seniors condo where they currently have resided for the last four years. Martin was seriously ill for the last weeks of his life and was called home to be with the Lord at 12:10 am on October 20, 2012. He left to mourn his loving wife of 60 years, 12 children and their spouses, 54 grandchildren, of which 22 are married and 55 great-grandchildren. Martin was predeceased by an infant son in 1963, a grandson 2004 and a great-grandson in 2001. If so desired exressions of sympathy can be made to Sunrise Radio.
