Obituary of Helen Smith
Obituary Helen was born in Parry Sound, Ontario on February 3, 1919 to parents William and Ada McKinley. Helen spent her childhood in Parry Sound and upon completing high school continued on to Dental Nursing at the University of Toronto. In 1942, Helen married her childhood sweetheart Terry Smith and soon the two departed for Peru where Terry was employed during WWll. While living in Peru, Helen and Terry started a family and two sons named Michael and Bill were born. After the war, the family moved from Peru back to North America where Terry held jobs in both Alberta and Texas. While moving about, daughters Mary, Julia and Jane were added to the family. Family has always been Helen's first priority, but once the family had grown, she started to expand her interest beyond house and home. She discovered her artistic ability and worked on her painting until the end of her life. Helen also found time to volunteer at the health unit and gift shops. Through all of these years she was an invaluable helpmate to Terry on the farm. She always had time for family and welcomed visits from her grandchildren and friends. Helen worked to maintain her independence and lived successfully in her beloved farm home until she was 90 years of age. Failing heath took it's toll and eventually Helen quietly passed away on December 29, 2013.
Helen was predeceased by her daughter Julia (1955), dear husband Terry (1996) and her two sisters. She leaves to mourn 4 children Michael (Patricia), Bill (Elly), Mary (Larry) and Jane (Ron-deceased); 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as,
many more friends and acquaintances.
