Obituary
Wendee Anne Hockney, formerly of Fort St. John, passed away suddenly on May 22, 2014.
Wendee was born, in Fort St. John, August 12, 1963, to proud parents Albert and Barbara Hockney. Wendee was the oldest sister followed by Suzanne who was 18 months younger and Michelle who came along 16 years later.
Wendee was a very active child who loved sports and gymnastics and anything that took her outdoors. Every spring, Wendee was the first one to be out picking berries and crocuses.
Wendee graduated from North Peace High School and in her twenties went on to complete her Social Services Worker Diploma. Wendee worked in Fort St. John for the Ministry of Children and Families and the Fort St. John General Hospital.
The greatest joy in Wendee's life was her children. She was a devoted single Mother to Tenielle, Joshua and Brittany. It didn't matter what she was doing as long as she was doing it with her children; whether it was a week-long dance competition in Prince George; or a weekend watching a Star Wars marathon, fundraising for extra-curricular activities or having 60 kids overnight for a birthday party sleepover so nobody would be excluded. The doors were always open at Wendee's house and everyone was always welcome. It was never a question if the children's friends were allowed over, only a question of how many. Wendee was such a relaxed mother and there weren't many rules in her household. The kids grew up never having a coffee table as it was a stage for the girls newest dance routines or for Wendee teaching Brittany how to do a back handspring on the hard wood floor before school.
Wendee was very active in the Catholic Church. Every other Saturday she could be found cleaning the church and later having coffee with the old boys from the church at A & W. She also was a regular who did the readings at mass.
Her children describe her as inspiring and independent. She taught them the true meaning of strength. She was an amazing Mom and could make anyone laugh with her awsome sense of humour.
Wendee had loads of energy and at 50 she could still do a perfect cartwheel.
Wendee was always open and direct. She used the words, appropriate or not, that you could understand. They weren't always nice but she got her point across whether you liked it or not.
She relocated 3 years ago to Edmonton to be closer to her children where she worked for the Worker's Compensation Board.
Wendee leaves behind her parents, Albert and Barbara Hockney; her children; Tenielle (Patrick), Joshua and Brittany, sisters; Suzanne (Shawn) McKenzie, Michelle Hockney and niece, Jade McKenzie (Shawn); great niece, Marli; great nephews, Emerson and Macklin and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Wendee touched many lives and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
