Obituary of Janet Taylor

Obituary Janet Jane (Aiton) Taylor, of Fort St. John, BC and loving wife of R.F. (Bob) Taylor, formerly of Hartland, New Brunswick & Revere, Massachusetts, died on Sunday, June 22, 2014 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving husband, family and friends. Born on May 2, 1949 she was the youngest child of Donald and Margaret (Hayward) Aiton and was raised in Hartland where she attended Hartland High School. In 1966 she transferred to Oak Grove School in Vassalboro, Maine to complete her high school studies and from there to Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts where she studied Music Education and Political Science. Following college she worked for 18 years in the tourism division of the Canadian Consulate General in Boston. She was a member of Boston Women in Travel and the International Federation of Women's Travel Organizations. Upon her move to Fort St. John in 1995, she quickly became involved in the community, including as an active director for the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation Board. For a time she was employed with the Northern Rockies Alaska Highway Tourism Association. In 2000 she and her husband formed their own company, Paladin Inspection Services Ltd., servicing Northeastern British Columbia's energy sector. Janet loved to travel throughout her life with her first journey being at the age of nine. During the span of her life she visited 25 countries and always said that the highlight of her travel adventures was walking along the lanes and alleyways in the Old City of Jerusalem. For the past 14 years, she and Bob spent a month each spring at their favorite vacation spot, Sanibel Island, Florida. Besides her husband, Janet is survived by nieces and nephews Sarah Jane Bishop (Lawrence) of Kingsley, NB and their family Jared (Gabby), Margaret Jane, Joel (Jessica), Kyle and Katherine Joanne; Martha Jo Finnamore of New Maryland, NB and her daughter Jasmine of St. John's, NL; Matthew Aiton Finnamore of Frederiction; Mandi Lee McGaghey (Jerry) and son Liam of Tampa, FL; J. Kriss Aiton (Theressa) and sons Jackson and Gabriel of Edmonton, AB. She leaves her sisters-in-law Linda Tait Aition (Hayward) of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB; Jacqueline Taylor (William) of Chemainus, BC; sister and brother-in-law John & Lillian (Taylor) Fowler of Halifax. In addition, she leaves several cousins in New Brunswick with special affection for Sandra Aiton McNutt (Bob) of Centerville; Carolyn Montgomery Corey of Somerville; John Aiton (Linda) of Barrington, NS; D. Jane Hayward Hovey & Peggy Aiton Belyea of Hartland, NB. She was predeceased by her parents and older siblings, D. Hayward Aiton of Grand Bay-Westfield NB and Karen Lynn Aiton of Kingsley, NB, as well as her brother-in-law W.O.(Bill) Taylor of Chemainus, BC. Funeral services will be held at the Alliance Church in Fort St. John, BC on Wednesday June 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at a later date at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hartland, NB. In lieu of flowers, Janet requested that any donations be made to the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation (Endowment Fund), 8407-112th Avenue, Fort St. John, BC V1J 0J5 (250-261-7563).
