Obituary of Raymond Spencer
Obituary Raymond was born as an only child in Vermilion Alberta to Reginald and Valeria Spencer on May 26, 1927.
As a young man he enjoyed life in a rural area, especially duck hunting in the fall. He always said as a teenager that it became a priority over going to school on those perfect hunting days.
He was also an aspiring hockey player in his teenage years playing for the Edmonton Canadians, Ponoka Stampeders and the Vermillion Tigers. His nimbleness and ability to stop and turn on a dime garnered him the nickname "Spinny Spencer".
His later teenage years found him pursuing a career in the oilpatch. This led him to the Leduc and Edmonton region, where he met the love of his life, Charlotte Ritchie. They enjoyed a blossoming romance in and around Edmonton, riding on his motorcycle and going to dances. They were married in 1952 and settled in Barrhead Alberta. By the mid 50's they were blessed with the arrival of two sons, Donald and Terry.
1958 provided the opportunity to relocate to the Peace Country again to follow the allure of the oil and gas industry. They settled in Fort. St John where they were blessed again with two more children Kevin and Cindy, both born in the mid 60's.
In addition to the development of his acreage and building of the home he resided in until his final day, Raymond worked numerous jobs in the petroleum industry including Mechanic, Rig Worker, Construction Superintendent, and Heavy Equipment Owner/ Operator. He was an exceptional mechanic and fabricator. There was nothing he could not fix or build to get the job done and he was always willing to mentor anyone that wanted to learn his tricks of the trade.
He also had a deep love of motorcycles, aircraft and airshows in particular the Fort St. John and Abbotsford Airshow which he attended many times, and of course the many feline friends he nurtured over the years.
In 1998 he lost Charlotte after a lengthy battle with diabetes. Throughout her illness he was relentless in ensuring she had all the help he could provide day and night.
Raymond leaves behind his four children Don(Peggy) Fort St John; Terry (Colleen) Nanaimo; Kevin(Jane) Calgary; Cindy of Penticton and seven grandchildren Kaili,Yuliss,Genevieve,Matthew, Cassie,Lanny,Ryan and 10 great grandchildren.
