Obituary of Elsie Snyder

Obituary Elsie Snyder was born in 1930 on her parent's farm in Balcarres, Sask. In 1949 she started nursing school in Regina, Sask and graduated in 1952. After graduation she went to work in Fort San, Sask at the Tuberculosis Sanatorium. When her friend from Nursing School went to the Yukon Elsie decided to go as well. She arrived in 1952 and worked at the Whitehorse General Hospital. One night Elsie and her friend went to the local news stand and that is where she met her husband to be - Keith Snyder. They married in 1954 and once their first child - Doug - was born she stopped working and stayed home to raise their children. In 1967 the family moved to Fort St John. Elsie went back to work part time as well as looking after her family and running children to various sports events. In 1980 Keith, Elsie and their youngest daughter moved to Vancouver Island where Keith retired. Elsie went back to school and trained as a long term care aid. She worked at Laurel Lodge until 1997 when Keith became ill and she stayed home to care for him. When her middle daughter - Kathy became ill with cancer she moved back to Fort St John to help care for her and be near her other children. Although not as active as she had been while living on the Island, Elsie still found many ways to keep busy. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Good - bye Elsie.
