I just heard of dear, sweet Ray's passing. I am sending my love and prayers to Denise and Carmen as you grieve the loss of your dad. Your dad was such an inspiration to me, and it was through his influence on my life that I do what I do today...I spend my days working with people who have some form of disability and love my job. Your dad taught me how to play racquet ball (I should say TRIED to teach me) and I never won a single game. He taught me that no matter how hard life is, you choose to become better through that experience because bitterness only ruins your own life. He was a protector when I needed that, and always treated me with kindness and the utmost respect. I will always treasure how he called me "Sweetheart" and made sure that the fellow I married would look after me. We shared long talks about life and faith and in many ways filled the gap in my life when my dad had passed. I am delighted beyond words that he is now pain free, that those legs of his work flawlessly and I can only imagine that he didn't simply walk through the pearly gates, but vaulted over them. When I first moved to Fort St John BC I used to see this man around town in his chair and I was always so curious about him. Then one day I finally got to meet him through my boss who is a quadriplegic at the peer group for the SCI in Fort St John. It was always a treat in seeing him :-) There is no doubt he is going to be missed. I shared so much of my life story with Ray on various occasions and he was so on my side. That was his spirit just so warming and positive <3 He always gave advice's that reassured me that I was on the right path in making decisions regarding my family :-) Thank You Ray for being a friend <3 We are all going to miss you at the peer group <3 Last time I seen Ray we were making plans to go bowling with my family <3 Thank You Ray for touching my heart and showing me how kind people can really be <3 You were a treat in life :-) So fun and always game :-) with your big smile :-) loved bowling with you and thank you for not teasing me to much about my lousy bowling skills instead you gave me encouragement like a pal <3 Rest In Peace My Friend Thank you for all that <3

I don't even know Ray except for seeing him around town. I do want to share a story about him that has stuck with me through the years. I had a three year old daughter and one year old twins and came into the mall frazzled. The twins got away from me and Ray was near the entrance to Safeway where the theater is now. They ran right up to him and hopped on the foot rests of his wheelchair. I was horrified but Ray just laughed and gave them a ride until I could get my three year old into a shopping cart. He was so kind to them. My girls are now 32 and 30.

I knew Ray when his children were going to Upper Pine School an also when his grandchildren were there, so that was many years ago. Ray always had a smile for everyone and that's what I saw the last time I talked to him. We shared our love for our grandchildren an the hardships we go though in raising them. I have so many great memories of Ray. When we first were preparing to open The Northern ToyBox in FSJ he would come by every day with coffee from Timmy's. Sometimes he would spill as he was coming through the door, Eva and I could never get there fast enough. "please play again sucka" is what he would say when we got nothing from the 'roll up the rim'. He was always positive and encouraging and stuck by us all the years we were open. He was great with the kids in the store and always found a way to make the visit fun. Ray was a big part of building that business, I guess he was a consultant in many ways.He was also a brother to me when I had no brother to talk to. He helped me as Grand Knight of the council as much as I helped him when he was Grand Knight. A few snapshots:The joy of sharing in the pitting of 120 lbs of cherries to make Cherry Wine. Ray and my family sitting around the kitchen, laughing and enjoying time spent well, anticipating the fruits of our labour.Eva storming out of the house to confront him about using a circle saw to cut boards for the ramp we were building so that I wouldn't have to lift him up the front steps anymore. "you're gonna cut your leg off....and you won't even feel it" He just smiled and assured her that he was being careful.I remember fondly when he and his friend Don asked me to be a God parent for Don. Ray wanted to share the honor and was very much about building relationships with people. Every person had value because he knew how much God loves each of us.Ray, my friend, I love you like a brother and am saddened by your passing, however, you are not gone because you live in my heart. Some day, I hope, when my time is done I will have the good fortune to merit seeing you again in eternity. I know you are with God because He would smile every time he thought of you.Bill Kouwenhoven

Stephen & I met Ray in 1977 when he lived on the highway by Mile 54 beside Dave & Mariann Rouble!!!! In all that time, I don't think I ever saw Ray without a smile on his face or laughing or teasing someone!!!! Ray was a very good person and was always the first one to help someone in need!!! This is very sad. My condolences to his family. I got to know Ray through my work at BCPA and various wheelchair sports interests. I always enjoyed visiting with Ray. He was always welcoming and friendly.Ray was a real pioneer and one of the first advocates for people with disabilities in the Fort St John area. He was always up for a challenge. He started wheelchair racquetball and basketball in the area. Wheeled for Rick Hansen. He raised a lot of awareness for the needs of people with disabilities and was the go to guy up in the north if you needed some help.The first time I met Ray he was on the ground under his vehicle fixing something.Ray was quite the entrepreneur. On any visit you could expect the latest vitamin, spice or balm to get you right. And of course the van load of OK fruit.Whenever I would meet someone from Fort St John I would ask if they knew of Ray. Of course everybody knew Ray! Ray was a big life character and I will miss him for sure.Pat Harris

I was very young when I first met Ray. From this day I can still see his smile. And the sound of the white van was always a sure sign of fresh peaches fruits and eggs from the Okanagan in which Ray would travel to get. He taught me and my brothers how to do wheelies in the wheelchair. He was a regular friend to my mother and remember many times watching and listening to his stories. I have known Ray since I was a child and have been blessed with so many great memories that include this wonderful man. Two of my favourites. When I was a teen my family went camping and Ray came out to visit for the day bringing a whole chicken with him. We spent the day sitting around the campfire chatting and cooking and basting this campfire chicken. When it was done it started pouring rain. We all piled into our tent and ate the best chicken dinner I have ever had. My second favourite memory happened just over a month ago. My daughters and I were up visiting FSJ and I was chatting with Ray at a pancake breakfast. Ray took a toonie out of his bag and started spinning it on the table for my 3 year old. This continued for 15 minutes and ended with Ray trying to teach my daughter to spin the toonie herself. That was Ray, always time for everyone no matter who they are or how old or young. I love you Ray and will hold these and other memories close to my heart until we meet again. Love and prayers for your grieving family too. See you again Grandpa Ray.

When I first met Ray, he was explained to me by one person as being a "ray" of sun shine in ones life if you ever had a chance blessing to meet him. I would have to agree, completely. I know full well that when ever I see a sun shine ray from the clouds trying to break through on a grey and cloudy day it will be Ray Archambault looking down from heaven praying for us and smiling as he always did! i have know Ray for quite a few years ,and was very sad to hear of his passing he will be sadly missed by all. I remember one time i lived in Wonowon,Mile 98 and Ray was bringing us eggs one time our place was not wheelchair accessible, but i thought i could get Ray up the stairs myself for coffee and lunch, well about halfway up i lost hold and tipped him out of his wheelchair, i was horrified but Ray laughed and i joined in i did manage to get him in for lunch.he was such a trooper !!!!

Knew and respected Ray very much, I remember when i started back to school at the Northern Lights College, i tried to open the door for him to get through with his wheelchair, He opened the door for me, true Gentleman never let is disability hold him back.. doing Laundry at the Launder mat.. to get the cloths in the dryer he would put one of the girls on his lap and they would stand up and throw cloths in the dryer.. he will be missed by all... Our sympathy to the beloved family of Ray. This is a loss for our community, for sure.We remember Ray before the accident and wheel chair and have admired him through the many years since. He made life seem do-able no matter what the difficulties. His faith in God and love for others was an inspiration to us. Though he did very well with a wheel chair - surely he is free of all pain and suffering now. We would love to be able to see him rejoicing and dancing today; one day we will!

I have many fond memories of Ray, I've known him all my life. I remember hundreds of rides down the mall on his lap, waiting anxiously for him to get back from the Okanagan with whatever delicious fruit he had loaded his van with, and hundreds of hours spent idly chitchatting the hours away. I honestly don't think I ever heard a negative thing from the man in all the years I've known him. Always in high spirits, endlessly patient, and unfailingly kind. I'm honored to have called Ray friend. Rest In Peace, Ray-Jean. I'll miss you my friend :cry:

Reading through some of these entries, it is obvious Ray is a well loved man who touched many lives. I had the privilege of working with Ray at the hospital and he definitely made an impression. He always had a smile to offer and a joke to tell, no matter what was going on with him. I think he got a kick out of the fact that I was a shy nurse who didn't always know how to take him ;) I have enjoyed seeing him in the community on occasion since I left my position at the hospital, and will miss seeing him around. Loved seeing Ray uptown or at the market garden. He always smiled and was joking around. An inspiration how he managed for so many years in a wheelchair and always had a smile. His love for people was also obvious. We will miss you Ray!

What a privilege to have known & loved Ray as a true friend! He was always an inspiration to me. He also kicked my butt in racquetball when I was on two legs! Will miss that smirky smile, like he just couldn't wait to tell a story or a joke. He always made me smile and gave me a hard time at the Credit Union where i first met him in 1987. Ray was a person where it was always worth that extra moment to stop and chat, thank you Ray.

I am a Handy Dart Driver so the drives where privileged to see Ray on a daily basis sometimes 3-4 times a day. He was always happy to ride extra long to have a nice visit with the Divers or other riders. There are more times that I can count that he payed for other Passengers to ride He was an unreal man. His is going to me missed dearly. Thinking of all of his family that he always talked about. We know you buy name he talked about you so much and was so proud.

I've known Ray from when I was in diapers and the first thing I remember was how I thought that his wheel chair was the coolest thing. As I grew, I remember him asking me how I was doing, what's new with me, how's my mom (he always meant my impossibly young Grandma) and his endless teasing about something or other. He always asked and he always listened and had a comment or joke for me. I have only warm memories of Ray and remember the last time I saw him, that I didn't have time to visit. I didn't know that would be the last time I'd have the chance. May you rest in peace Ray and take long walks in your next life, or whatever makes your heart full. You are missed.
