Obituary of Betty-Lou Lumley
Obituary Betty-Lou (Gray) Lumley died peacefully in Fort St. John on February 15, 2016 at the age of 78. Betty is survived by her loving husband, Melford Lumley, beloved son's Kenn & Brian (Sherry) Lumley, granddaughters Jamie (Tony) Vandal, Tiffany (Brad), Kelsey (Ryan), Stacey (Tyler), great-grandsons Marcus & Josh Vandal, Braxton & Oakley LaClaire, and her sisters Beverly Meuse, and Glenna-Lee (Grant) Smith.
Betty is predeceased by her father and mother Jim and Sadie Gray, and son's Jim, Bruce, and Brent Lumley.
Betty was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba on March 25, 1937 to Jim and Sadie Gray. She was raised in Clear Lake, Manitoba. On May 24, 1954 she married her best friend, Melford Lumley in Riding Mountain National Park. They raised their children in Minnedosa and Strathclair, Manitoba and then decided to move to Fort St. John, BC with their three children (Jim, Kenn & Brian) in 1971.
In 1979, on Melford and Betty's 25th wedding anniversary, they were very excited to be surprised with a trip to Hawaii with their friends from their family. After Melford and Betty's retirement in 1992, they spent their time camping and golfing together all over western Canada. In 2004, on Melford's and Betty's 50th wedding anniversary, they were again surprised with a carnival cruise together through Mexico.
Betty was very proud of her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and always put everyone before herself.
Betty struggled with COPD for several years and she is now restfully at peace with the angels that she loved. We will cherish the memories of Betty and remember her fondly as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend.
As Betty wishes to not have a memorial service, please share memorable moments on here. If so desired expressions of sympathy can be made to the Fort St. John General Hospital Auxiliary Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
