Long were the days.. hot without remorse.. dusty without a wind.. only the cadence of the D- John Deere working a 10 ft cultivator to harmonize the sparse repertoire of a young kid trying to fill a 2 day void of endless circles.. Dirt so thick it usually took 2 changes of water in the tub to get clean.. and then the next day do it all over again.. I remember the ends of those days.. a gentle man.. even dirtier.. eyes and teeth a sharp contrast to the layers of mother earth that adorned the trappings of a working man.. vibrant was his laugh.. as we would share the last of can of coke.. reduced to a frothy frizz by the relentless heat.. it wasn't the taste that garnered the memory.. or the fact that was all we had.. it was the heart felt laugh of a simple life.. Love, laugh and life.. the epitome of it all.. My prayers are with Aunty Ruth and family .. Billy
