I was so very sorry to learn of Alene's passing. She was a wonderful lady. I knew her best through being members of "The senior ladies bridge club". I always looked forward to seeing her there. Alene had such a quiet gentle spirit. She was an amazing lady and will be greatly missed. The world was a better place because Alene was in it. Thank you Mrs Peck for hiring me my first job as camp cook out at Tichochi Lakes way back in early 1980s, it has paved a way for me to be dedicated worker, to make a supper with so little, put in fly camps for Don Peck Holdings. Our heartfelt and sincere sympathies go to the entire Peck family. Alene was a strong , caring woman and a true pioneer of Northern BC; she was a friend and mentor to many in the guide/outfitting community. I think of her often when I pull out my Hunters Cookbook to make Crew cookies, sourdough pancakes,....; her simple but always tasty dishes were a mainstay to many young camp cooks. Alene was a woman of great dignity and compassion. She valued honesty and commitment. She inspired me to try to be a better person. I valued her opinion. She wasn't a very talkative person but when she spoke it was worth listening to. She was a beautiful person inside and out. I'm so sorry to hear of Alene's passing. One of my earliest memories was of the Peck family tenting at the Dawson Creek fairgrounds. It started to rain and eventually the fairgrounds became a swamp with their tent filling with rain. Mom and Dad finally convinced them to come and bring their kids to spend the night at our house. I'm sure Alene had spent many a night in a wet tent but she was grateful for a dry spot that night. I remember, too, going to their place in Fort St John for a visit and Don insisting that we stay for supper. We had these Elk Ribs (I think) and it was like eating brontosaurus ribs. They were huge!!Eileen was such a dignified lady in spite of the harsh lifestyle she married into. She always looked like a million bucks!My heart goes out to Ross, Patty, Timber and families.
