My deepest regret is not having spent more time with Connie when we last met. A good friend said " Take the time to enjoy their company because life is too short. You may not ever have the chance again to say what they meant to you." This is true. Rest in Peace. You were well loved. My Condolences to All the Family.

I haven't seen Mrs Bateman since 1979, but she will always have a huge piece of my heart. I met her daughter Terry when I was only ten and my own mom had died a few months before. I don't know what I would have done without Mrs Bateman that first couple of years. She treated me like one of her own children. She was kind and loving and even gave me hell right alongside Terry when we deserved it. After school I always went home to the Bateman's house until my dad arrived home from work. She taught me how to properly grease and flour a pan when making a cake, Terry and I were not exactly top chefs then. When winter came and she made Terry the most adorable crocheted hat and scarf, I was beyond thrilled when she made me one to match. Our class made a 'horror' film about two evil witches, starring none other than the very talented actress Terry Clayton and myself. By the time Mrs Bateman was done making our costumes and doing our make-up, Terry and myself were the most awesome witches around. I remember being the only one home one day when I accidentally whacked myself in the forehead with a hammer. I ran as fast as I could across the field that separated our homes and Mrs Bateman saw me coming. I don't know who was more afraid when I showed up on the step with the largest goose egg on my forehead, me or Mrs Bateman. I spent many, many nights having sleepovers at the Bateman home and ate many a delicious meal cooked by Mrs Bateman. She used to make Terry and I play with Jonathan, James, Caron, and Babe. I suppose no one calls him that anymore. Ha ha. Sometimes Terry and I would be annoyed when we were made to play with her siblings, but it taught me a lesson that I took into my adult life and passed on to my own children. The lesson was an important one and I believe it helps to make families closer. I could go on about all that the Bateman's gave me, but I didn't mean to make this a novel. I just wanted to say my bit about this wonderful woman and her family and all that they still mean to me some forty-six years later. You will always have a piece of my heart Mrs Bateman. You are leaving a hole in the hearts of many. Thank you for being in my life when I needed you most. Giant hugs to Terry and all the family. My thoughts and heart are with you.
