Obituary of Greg Emory

Obituary Robert "Greg" Emory passed away suddenly at Victoria General Hospital, Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the age of 60. Greg is survived by his loving wife, Sally, his sisters Janis and Lee, his parents-in-law Laurence and Elizabeth Richards, his dear friend, Norbert Kasper. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Jean. Greg grew up in Nelson where he spent the winters playing hockey and the summer swimming and sun tanning. He moved to Fort St. John in 1978 after he received his teaching certificate from UVic. It was the first community to offer him a job and he taught his entire career at Alwin Holland Elementary School, teaching children and grandchildren of former students. In 1983, he married the principal's daughter, Sally, and was absorbed into her large boisterous family. They enjoying travelling and were fortunate to spend a month in the South Pacific, traverse the Panama Canal and many other holidays to warm locations. Greg was only 28 when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. His world changed dramatically but he called upon his innermost strength and faith and it never let him down. His body gave up but his spirit never faltered. He continued to teach part-time until 2010, volunteer at St. Luke's United Church and raise thousands of dollars for Bluey Days. He chose to donate his body to UBC Faculty of Medicine. Greg and Sally moved to Mill Bay in 2016 and it was a blessing to be so close to world-class medical facilities as well as family. Special thank you to Dr Moody who cared for Greg for more than 30 years and all the specialists, therapists and medical personnel in Fort St John, Vancouver and Victoria who supported him up to his last moments. 2 memorial services will be held. Sylvan United Church, Mill Bay, BC, on Sunday, August 13th at 2 pm St. Luke's United Church, Fort St. John on Saturday, August 19th at 10:30 am In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Fort St John Hospital Foundation "Bluey Day" fund would be appreciated.
