Obituary of Francette Reid

Obituary Fran Reid of Charlie Lake, BC passed away May 6, 2018 at the age of 95. Fran was born in Luseland, Saskatchewan on February 4, 1923, the middle of 7 children. She came to Fort St. John in the late 50's and shortly thereafter settled on an acreage in Charlie Lake and resided there for nearly 60 years. She worked at various jobs in the Peace River area. The winter of 1962 she was cooking for Mel Clarke at his sawmill just out of Hudson Hope and met a sawyer that was working there. He was soon seen asking if he could do extra chores like hauling her water, stealing extra pieces of the best pie he'd ever eaten, and they listened together to the kitchen radio to their favorite song From A Jack to A King. He then started taking the cook to town in his 1957 blue Chevy ½ ton pickup on their days off. Mom married Bert Reid on March 21, 1963 at People's Mission Church. Fran and Bert raised their family at Charlie Lake and Buick, BC. They raised three daughters, Lorna, Heather and Colleen. They were foster parents to many giving Don, Tina & Dwayne their forever home. Later their daughters supplied them with gems of son-in-laws, Roger, Ken, Scot and Shane. Then along came the grandchildren and great grandchildren which were her pride and joy. Fran's door was always open to kids and the needy. She would have liked to fix the world. Mom was not a public person but worked behind the scenes to make blankets and slippers, supported Bible Camps and sponsored a child in the Philippines, helped at the Salvation Army and numerous other callings. This last year Mom lived at Abbeyfield where she was so well looked after. Thanks everyone at Abbeyfield and to each and everyone that came to visit and/or took the time to phone her. Fran will be remembered for pussy willows, babies, crocuses, chicks, hot coffee, french fries and African violets.
