Obituary of Gordon Dietz

Obituary It is with heartfelt sadness we announce that Gordon Dietz passed peacefully on February 24, 2019 at the age of 75. There will be a memorial service for Gordon on Wednesday, March 6th, 2019 at 2:00 pm from Hamre's Funeral Chapel. David "Gordon" Dietz was born to Frank and Dorothy Dietz on May 29, 1943 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. Gordon received his education there, where he graduated and received his diploma in 1962. He moved to Fort St. John in 1967, residing there until his passing on February 24, 2019. Gordon was predeceased by his Mother; Dorothy on May 30th, 2004, his Father; Frank on March 22, 2012, Nephew: Blair on January 13, 2002, and Sister-In-Law; Floreen on April 21, 2004. Gordon was the eldest of their five children. He is survived by his Sister; Bonnie (Perry) Leonfellner, and Brothers: Bruce (Arlene), Keith (Susanne) and Allan, along with their families, as well as his good friends. Gordon was the type of man who didn't like to bother others, but did enjoy his time spent with family and friends. He had some good friends who speak very highly of him. In his early years here in the Peace, Gordon operated a rotary breaking plow and skidder, for employment. His work took him to Inuvik and Hudson Bay in years to follow. He also worked for many years for Coneco Equipment where he was well respected for his mechanical knowledge and hard work ethics. Gordon was a genius when it came to mechanics, he spent many hours in his shop fixing or inventing many different things, sometimes leading to staying up around the clock. He built himself a seismic rig which he was very proud of and started up his own drilling company. Gordon's first big trip away was to Hawaii with a friend. He would tell the story later, of them both wearing cowboy boots on the plane and upon arrival they could hardly get them off their feet due to the swelling from the heat. He really enjoyed travelling and some of his other travels took him to Scotland, England, Fiji, and Palm Springs to name a few. Gordon had a real love for flying throughout his entire life. After getting his pilot's licence, he was so proud and happy to take someone along to enjoy the flight, usually flying over the home farm where family would go out to give a wave. In the later years, Gordon enjoyed time spent while meeting with his buddies at the A&W on a regular basis. Another highlight was when Friday afternoons rolled around and his Mom and Dad stopped in for a little visit on their way home from town, with donuts in hand. Gordon will be sadly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Gordon to the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation.
