Obituary INA PEARL ADAMS (Nee: MENZIES) Born: February 13, 1923 Beatty, Saskatchewan Passed Away: June 28, 2020 Coquitlam, British Columbia It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, INA ADAMS on June 28, 2020. She will be coming home to FSJ to be buried beside her husband, Harold and son, Clifford. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 3, at FSJ Cemetery. Ina was born and raised on a farm in Beatty, Saskatchewan, She was number 8 in a family of 14 and was lucky enough to be able to finish school and go on to Normal school to get her teaching certificate. Her teaching career spanned over many years, beginning when she was 19 years old in a one room school with grades 1 thru 8. Sept. 1942 -Feb. 1944 .... Sunny View School .... Spalding, Sask. Feb. 1944- June 1944 .... Middle Lake School .... Middle Lake Sask. Sept. 1945-June 1948 .... Beatty School ... grades 5-8 ... Beatty, Sask. Sept. 1957-June 1986 .... Central Elementary ..... Fort St. John, B.C. Many from FSJ will remember her best from her many years as teacher and teacher/ librarian at Central Elementary. Her love of teaching touched many lives and in the library, her love of books showed hundreds the joy and pleasure of reading ...truly a lifetime gift. Mom and Dad were married on November 20, 1943. In 1948 they moved to FSJ with their young son, Clifford. Another son, Lorne, and daughter Bernice were born there. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1993, a year before dad passed away. Mom was certainly a model for all her family. She loved her teaching, was always reading or studying .... I remember her working all day then studying late into the night as she took more courses to update her certifications. She spent two summers at UBC to complete her Bachelor's degree and it was a proud moment when she and dad attended her graduation. Mom was always a 'stylish' dresser ... even in the last few years she enjoyed receiving a new outfit! Getting her hair done at The Hair Bin was a weekly occurrence. Games were always a big part of entertainment in our house. Mom loved her bridge and was an impressive player. Everyone wanted her as their partner! She usually got good cards and was adept at making her bids or putting others down. Playing Crib and Nil at the FSJ Seniors was her favourite pastime. In FSJ mom lived 'in the house that Dad built' on 99th Avenue for 64 years. They were 'pioneers' and witnessed so many changes in the growth of FSJ. When she was 90, she moved to Coquitlam to be closer to her daughter. We are thankful for this time with her as she blended well with our family and enjoyed meeting and playing with many of Bernice's bridge buddies. Mom always planed to live to reach 100 years old and receive that honoured 'letter from the Queen'. She was close reaching 97 1/2! Well done, Mom. In saying goodbye, we know that Mom has lived a good life, married the love of her life, and witnessed amazing changes in the history of the world around her. We love her dearly and have good memories to share.
