Obituary of Taras Stawychny
Obituary
It was with great sadness that we announce the passing of Taras (Terry) Stawychny on August 24th, 2020 at the age of 84.
Terry Stawychny was born in Poplarfield MB in 1935. He moved his family to the Peace River area in 1966 and settled in Fort St. John in 1973. Terry was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He was able to travel to many beautiful and remote locations in his work with BC Hydro.
In his long tenure with BC Hydro he was greatly respected and admired for his leadership and mentorship. Upon his retirement in 2014, BC Hydro officials noted in a paragraph from this retirement letter,
“you have passed on your vast knowledge and experience to your crews including your much-flavoured stories from growing up in the 1940’s. Both funny and thoughtful, we have been told these stories have always put the present-day inconveniences and occasional gripes into perspective, and we thank you for that.”
Dad’s sense of humour will stay in our hearts forever.
Terry is survived by his daughters Lisa Hunter, husband Tom of Calgary AB, and their two children Elizabeth and John. Nita Stawychny of Fort St. John BC. Mona Johnston, husband Dan of Taylor BC and son Trevor.
He is preceded in death by his wife Marie Stawychny and daughter Greta Stawychny of Fort St. John, BC.
Terry was cremated, as was his wish and rests for eternity with his beloved wife Marie.
