Telford Earl Penfold, born October 17, 1945 in Fergus, Ontario, passed away September 22, 2020 in Morden, Manitoba at the age of 74.
Telford earned a Bachelor of Arts from Waterloo Lutheran University, a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Theology from Presbyterian College, a Thealagia Bacallariam from McGill University, and a Master of Arts in Social Science from Azusa Pacific University. Telford was a life-long educator, teaching French and many other subjects to students at all levels. He was an avid conversationalist and enjoyed an intellectually challenging debate. He lived an adventurous life, travelling frequently and living in Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Vietnam, as well as four provinces in Canada. In the course of his life, he built a log home with his family in Cecil Lake, B.C., raised sheep and goats, enjoyed bird watching, walking, and gardening. He was a spiritual seeker, studied theology, served as a pastor, and joined the Orthodox Church. He loved classical music, particularly Handel’s Messiah. He will be deeply missed by his family and will live on in their hearts and in the many ways he has shaped their lives.
Telford is survived by his five children, Heather (Wade) Nicholson, Catharine (Salvatore) Penfold Navarro, Timothy (Sofia) Penfold, Laura (Jeremy) Penfold Rowley, and Elisabeth (Philip) Penfold Jordahl; his wife, Claire Penfold (nee Elliott); his mother, Della Penfold; his siblings Anne Kennedy, Allan (Jacqueline) Penfold, and Susan Penfold and sister-in-law Helen Penfold; and 18 grandchildren.
