Obituary of Garry Hunt

Obituary GARRY NEIL HUNT Born December 19, 1953 in Calgary Alberta, firstborn to Neil and Shirley Hunt. Passed away on November 10, 2020 in Vancouver BC. Garry’s early childhood was in Calgary until his family moved to Fort St. John when he was 14, where he resided until his passing. Garry was an avid sportsman and participated in many different sports such as Tackle and Flag Football, as well as Men’s Fastball. Football was his favorite. Garry married Sherry (Leahy) on April 13, 1974 and they have three children, Angie, Nicole and Troy. Over the years Garry followed, watched and coached his children in gymnastics, hockey, fastball, and many other school sports that they participated in. Garry had a love for music, he had a great singing voice that many did not get to hear. Garry played the piano by ear and up until the end it was apparent music was in his soul. Garry was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed building several of his own homes, as well as several custom and spec homes over the years. Later in life Garry found his true calling as a Grandpa. His first grandchild, Ryder, came in 2007, Garry enjoyed years of watching Ryder play hockey, baseball and basketball. They shared their common love of watching football games together. Troy’s first daughter, Taya, brought a smile to grandpas face every morning with a “good morning grandpa”, and brought him so much happiness, as he got to watch her blossom and overcome so many obstacles in her life. The baby of Troy’s family, Tyler, made grandpa giggle daily with her spicy little attitude. Gramps loved buggin and teasing Tyler, and would crash open her bedroom door every time with his classic “I’m gonna get you” tickle attack. She would respond with her standard scream, but quickly would bust into a belly laugh. Nicole’s first daughter Hadley brought Grandpa so much pride with all her skiing and academic accomplishments, her science fair success brought him great joy. Claire endured many years of grandpas bad jokes and in return grandpa endured many games of old maid and snakes and ladders with Claire. He said she cheated but they were always smiling. Then came Angie’s twins, these girls stole grandpas heart and made his last year and half so full of joy. Avery only had to smile to convince grandpa she was the funniest little nut around and Emilynn only had to walk in the room to light up Grandpas face. Garry passed away peacefully with his wife, children, siblings, Bonnie, Brian and Marilyn and his Dad surrounding him with love and comfort. There were many laughs and tears shared in his final days. Garry was predeceased by his mother Shirley, his in-laws Lyman and Jean Leahy. He leaves to mourn his wife of 46 years Sherry, and his loving family.
