Obituary of Andrew Martin King

Friends and family are invited to view the service through the following link - CLICK HERE On February 17, 1948, Andrew Martin King (Andy) joined his older sisters, Barbara and June, in Big Beaver, Saskatchewan to provide much excitement in their lives. He did not have to wait long to meet his life-long sidekick, his little brother, Ezra. Throughout their time on a farm near the Big Muddy Badlands of Saskatchewan, the King family version of the Katzenjammer Kids managed to keep life interesting for their parents and sisters from various capers such as being naked mechanics, hiding matches down gopher holes, or driving a truck with one brother steering and the other brother working the pedals and the clutch. One could often find the two having an afternoon nap leaned up against the family’s milk cow. As Andy got into the school age years, the escapades continued but his interests expanded to include the respectable activities of many a Saskatchewan farm boy: that of being involved in the 4-H Club, baseball, and curling. Andy curled in Saskatchewan’s High School Provincial tournament and won the finals. After high school, Andy set out on a new adventure with his father, mother, and brother to the Peace country to start cattle ranching at Stoddart Creek. They established A&E King Farms and ran a sawmill that kept Andy busy for the next 30 years. During this time, he added his son, Zackary and his daughter, Adrianna, his sister-in-law, Carol and his nieces and nephews, Stefanie, Kirby, Jennifer, and Jeremy to his gang of co-conspirators in many adventures. He was known to hold their hands when facing things that scared them, teach them how to farm, mechanic and run equipment. There were countless rides on tractors, skidders, and other equipment. In the post era of A&E King Farms, Andy could be found logging, fishing, reading, helping others, and having coffee with his friends and family. The highlights of this period in his life were his deep sea, salmon and trout fishing adventures with his son, nephew, brother and friends and a family trip to Cameron Lakes. He also enjoyed his numerous adventures around Edmonton and area when he stayed with his niece, Stefanie, for an extended visit. The time spent with his nieces and nephews transformed his status of uncle into that of friend and confidant. The status of beloved uncle was passed to their children, where Uncle Andy was known for his hugs and visits to his house were always memorable. In recent years, he spent time with his grandchildren, Blake and Keyandra. There were innumerable times of “helping” make pancakes, rides on the lawn tractor and much cuddling with Papa. Andy decided that he had all the adventures that he needed and departed from this world on February 16, 2021. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his loyalty, kindness, generosity, willingness to lend a hand and most of all his sense of sarcastic humor. We will miss our famous “Statler” from the Muppets’ Waldorf and Statler duo. In memory of Andy, donations can be made to the FSJ Hospital Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
