Obituary of George Andrew Middleton

Obituary George (Buddy) Middleton was born in Regina, SK on October 29, 1940 to parents George and Allie Middleton. He grew up surrounded by love and rowdiness with five brothers and one sister. There was never a shortage of work to be done on the farm and Buddy learned many different skills at a young age. As a young boy, he would run over a mile to school each morning to light the fire before the teachers and other students arrived. When he had enough of school, he decided to become a cat skinner and started working for his dad. He worked for many years in the oil patch, building roads and leases in the Peace Region. He endured many harsh winters at camp and survived the boom and bust nature of the industry. In 1961, Buddy married Eileen Sieben and not long after they welcomed a baby boy, Daryl. Next came a daughter, Gloria and then another daughter, Debbie. They shared many happy years together until sadly, Eileen passed away from cancer. Buddy met Joyce Bouffioux in 1979 when she hired him to build a road on her property. They married in 1981 and she moved into his house on 99th Avenue with her two children. During their 42 years together, they created many happy memories. They bought the old Lutheran church and spent five years renovating it to make it their family home. They loved Ecuador and traveled there every April. They enjoyed trying to speak Spanish and meeting new friends. They never shied away from hard work but also never forgot to have fun together. Family was important to Buddy and he made everyone around him feel special. He loved to attend family gatherings and never missed an opportunity to watch his grandkids play hockey (even if the games started at 7 am and he had to leave Joyce sleeping in bed). Often, he got there even before the team. The boys remember getting to Hudson's Hope early one snowy winter morning only to find Papa's truck already in the parking lot. Buddy loved his siblings and their spouses. He appreciated all of the help they gave him and enjoyed being with his brothers at the Middleton shop. He had lifelong friendships that he cherished. He was blessed to have a large blended family. He was very proud of his children and their spouses, his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He loved puttering around his house and in his shop, fixing anything and everything that needed to be done. He had a large garden and greenhouse and was always busy with his “honey-do” lists. He made the best French fries. Buddy loved old country music and was known to play the harmonica now and then. Buddy was a loyal person with strong values and beliefs. He wanted to make the world a better place and he especially wanted to fix the government. He had a great sense of humour and a contagious laugh. He had a fighting spirit and beat cancer a few times. Buddy will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his colourful personality and his kind heart. He had an uncanny ability to remember every joke he'd ever heard and he could get away with saying things that no one else could. Buddy passed away suddenly on April 19, 2021 at his home in Charlie Lake, BC. He was predeceased by his father, George Middleton and mother, Allie Middleton. He leaves behind his loving wife, Joyce; his son Daryl (Janice) Middleton of Mission, BC; his daughter Gloria Middleton of Kamloops, BC; his daughter Debbie Middleton of Nelson, BC; his step children Ryan (Tammy) MacKenzie and Miranda (Sheldon) Gibb of Fort St. John, BC. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Raymond Kelly, Donald & Bryan Kelly, Shea-Lynne & Jack MacKenzie, Hunter & Finley Gibb. As well he leaves behind his siblings John & Diane Middleton, Judy Eberle, Roger & Joy Middleton, Dave & Lori Middleton, Erle Middleton, Ian & Sandra Middleton and many nieces, nephews and friends.
