Obituary of Hannah May Quigley

Obituary Hannah (May) Quigley was born on February 15, 1938 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, and passed away on May 9, 2021 in Fort St. John General Hospital at the age of 83 years after a courageous battle with COPD. May will be lovingly remembered by her children: daughter Debbie (Everett) Backus of Mara, B.C., grandson: Tyler (Erin) Backus, great-grandsons: Decker and Jett; grandson: Trent (Crystal) Backus, great-grandson: Gage; son Rick (Lisa) Quigley of Charlie Lake, B.C., grandchildren: Celine and Ryan Quigley; daughter in law (Joe-Ann Peever) of Charlie Lake, B.C.; grandsons: Jarett, Matthew, and Daniel Quigley. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald, one son, Brad Quigley and two brothers, Donald Millar and Bob Millar. May will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. May and Ron were married in 1956 and moved from the lower mainland to Charlie Lake, B.C. in 1963. Ron was involved in many business ventures while May worked at the Medical Clinic as a records clerk, and later at the MacKenzie Inn as the laundry manager. She also enjoyed the days of cooking at the Tompkins Truck Stop. May was a self taught guitar player as well as a guitar teacher. She was very dedicated to her family and was known for her kindness and willingness to help others. May enjoyed travelling, camping with her grandchildren, golfing, skiing, dancing, enjoying music, and playing scrabble and cards. In 1996, they moved to the North Okanagan area, first to Grindrod, and then in 2009 to Vernon, where they enjoyed their retirement years in “paradise”. May moved back up to Charlie Lake in 2017. In respecting May’s wishes, she was cremated and a celebration of her life together with her husband, Ron’s life will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be sent in memory of May to the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation. We, May’s family, would like to take this opportunity to give heartfelt thanks to our extended family and close friends who have supported us in so many ways in the last few years. We would particularly like to thank Dr. Brussow for his many house visits and help, the Northern Health wound care nurses and respite care aids for their house visits, the staff at the Fort St. John Pharmacy & Wellness, and the nursing/care aid, physiotherapy, and dietary staff at the Fort St. John Hospital for their kindness and help over the last two months.
