Obituary of Gregory William Mann

Obituary Greg was born in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan to Anton (Tony) & Mary Mann, one of 15 children. Drawn to sports at an early age he excelled in baseball, hockey, and soccer. After graduating highschool, he started his career in banking but soon found the structure too rigid and the chance for advancement non-existent. While playing in a baseball tournament he met Joan Poturnak and the two were married in Wynyard Saskatchewan February 3, 1962. Eldest son Kerry was born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan in 1965, Kurt in Wilkie, Saskatchewan in 1966, and daughter Kathleen in Edmonton, Alberta in 1972. Not one to let grass grow under his feet, he left his hospital administration job in Minnedosa, Manitoba in 1970 for the call of the Yukon, where he worked for the Federal Government in Health & Welfare. Again the bureaucracy became too much and he took over management of the bowling alley in the Yukon Hotel. 1975 saw him move the family temporarily back to Minnedosa, and then next door to Humboldt, Saskatchewan where he was employed as the Hospital Administrator. Greg went back to the University of Saskatchewan and got his accounting degree which precipitated a move to Fort St John, BC to join an accounting firm. After a few months he decided to open his own firm, and spent the remainder of his career in accounting and financial advisory roles. Greg was remarried to Julie Banner in 2010 and spent 8+ years traveling and gardening, first at their home in Fort St John and then Vernon, BC. Following Julie's death he moved back to Fort St John where he lived until his passing. He was an avid bowler, crib player, gardener, and bird hunter his entire life and left an impression on all he met. He is survived by his son Kerry (Kerri) grandchildren Kody (Catherine) & Kirsten (Cole), son Kurt (Angie) grandchildren Todd (Alyssa), Bowen, & Keegan, and daughter Kathy (Steve) grandchildren Ryan & Nikita. Greg was predeceased by granddaughter Suzie (Kurt &Angie). A drop in Celebration of Life will be held at Fort Bowling Lanes in Fort St John, BC on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 from 6-9pm. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Canadian Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF Canada).
