To The Hannaford family, let the memories of your father and grandfather go on forever. Keep those memories alive and in your hearts.

We were so sad to hear of John's passing. The Hannaford family was an important part of our family after we moved to Fort St. John in 1951. It was always a trip I looked forward to a trip to the farm. Cookies, milk and smiles, those were my early memories of the family. Even though I was much younger than John, he would take me with him as he did chores. When the chores were done he would take me out to the fields and we would hunt for sharp-tail grouse. Several times he took me for a tour of their property and showed me many interesting things, where they had dug up some Pemmican, where they had found the large petrified clam, which was sitting on their porch (of their new home). Such a hard working family, who always had time for visitors. Our family moved away but kept in contact for many years. John will always be in my memories.

I will always remember the evening that my son Evan introduced me to his most gracious neighbors John and Heather. While picking up a load of hay one winter evening we drove up to the house purposely to say hello, and for me to be introduced. I was immediately impressed by their welcome, and how their home felt like our own place in the Pembina Valley near Manitou, MB. As we approached the house I was so amazed at how the light of the porch was visible through the cracks in the porch door. We opened the door using a thumb latch. Now I knew I was genuinely in Peace River country when farm folks still used a thumb latch on their porch door. Evan and Kim have always spoke so highly of their wonderful friends and close neighbors, and I know they will miss them dearly.

I first met John when David, Joanna (then 2yrs old) came to Canada for the first time. I have always remembered John to be a hard working, strong, kind, gentle family man of few words but when he spoke, people listened. His quiet strength and kindness will be greatly missed by all those that had the pleasure of meeting him.

I was so pleased to reacquaint myself with my brother-in-law John when I was able to visit along with my daughter Joanna just a few years ago. My abiding memory is of a gentle family gentleman with a quiet sense of humour
