Obituary of Kenneth Daniel Weber

Obituary Ken Weber, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully in the Fort St. John Hospital after a short illness on November 4, 2021. Ken was a true North Peace Pioneer, born November 13, 1937 at the original Fort St. John Providence hospital. He was the only child, and pride and joy of Dan & Lillian Weber. Growing up on the family farm in Pineview, he began playing ball, curling and attended Pineview school until the Laboucane Family, and their 16 children moved to town. This forced the school to close and the remainder of the students, including Ken and his closest cousin, Maurice Fines, to live in dorms or to be billeted in Fort St. John to continue the remainder of his education. This also got him closer to the rink where he could continue to play hockey and competitive curl. At an early age, Ken’s love of trucks and machinery was born, the bigger the equipment the better. He started working for Dan Pomeroy at age 16, moving buildings and did numerous truck driving jobs in the area until the start of construction on the WAC Bennett Damn, where he was in his element driving the “big stuff” until its completion. New Year’s Eve, 1966, his dad introduced him to Gail Campsall. They were married later that year on November 4, 1967 in Vancouver, BC. They started their married life in Hudson’s Hope where they proudly welcomed son Danny in July 1969, and daughter Darci in Dec 1971. He moved his young family back to Fort St. John in the spring of 1972 where he spent the next few years pipelining all over BC and hauling logs for George Fibich. While hauling logs, they moved up from trailer park life to buying their family home in Spring of 1974 and welcoming their 3rd child, daughter Dawn in February 1977. In 1981, Ken started his long employment with West Coast Transmission. During his employment, the company took on many names. After officially retiring at age 65, he chose to return the very next day, as his only idea of retirement was continuing to do what he loved…to drive. Ken’s unwavering work ethic, years of experience, and versatility driving both the trucks and equipment, established his reputation and long-term relationships within the industry which led to him finishing his career with Macro Industries, a company whose values aligned with his own. With pride, Ken continued to work until age 80. Ken loved spending time with his family and friends and especially loved having kids around, whether it be his own, his grandchildren, and all of their friends who have many fond memories of their time at the Webers’. He loved camping, boats and spending time on the water. He was an avid water skier from his youth into his 70’s, then continued to enjoy tubing into his 80’s. He cherished family time spent pulling the trailer and boat, and more recently the motorhome, through BC and Alberta. Family vacations took them to Nashville, Disneyworld and multiple trips to Disneyland throughout the years. Many memories were made travelling with Gail and friends to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Mayan Riviera, and a cruise through the Panama Canal. After 44 years on the corner of 111th, Ken and Gail moved to their retirement home on 117th Ave. Until his passing, Ken enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends, happy hour with the Hamilton’s, curling, watching sports, his old favorite tv shows, and coffee at Humpty’s “changing gears” with old truckers. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Gail Weber (nee Campsall), his 3 children Dan (Monique) Weber, Darci (Jack) Hynes, Dawn (Chris) Thompson, his 10 Grandchildren Brian, Daylan (Marina), Kagan, Kohl, Wyatt, Luke, Brett, Jordy, Makenna & Payton, and 2 Great-Granddaughters Emma & Londyn, his Sister-in-Law Arlene Carey, Niece Colleen (Dale) Wirsz, and their children Brian & Kirsten (Christian). He held a special place in the hearts of many other family and friends. Ken will be lovingly remembered for his quiet sensitivity, dry sense of humor, as a man you could rely on, and for his unwavering support of those he loved. The good life I lived, while I was still strong. Continue my heritage, I am counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls. I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
