Obituary of Carrol Michelle Edwards
Obituary
Carrol Edwards was born to Roy and Martha Williams on August 10, 1957, in Winnipeg MB. Being in an
army family and the eldest of three girls, her childhood was full of travel between bases in Canada and
West Germany as she developed a strong independence and resilience as well as a love of figure skating,
the arts, and shared adventure. Carrol was a protective older sister and roll model with family being a
core constant in their ever-changing environment. A born leader, she was a woman ahead of her time,
refusing to marry for anything but love and developing her career as well as her passions.
She followed her best friend to Fort St. John, BC in 1981 after completing schooling for business
administration. One summer evening she met Billy (William) Edwards at the Beatton River and they hit it
off instantly, marrying the following summer in 1982. The two made FSJ their forever home as they
raised their two children, Amanda and Ryan. Carrol wholly supported her kids’ interests and wasn’t
afraid to create complicated costumes, or learn the details of a new activity, to encourage their success.
This included multitasking like none other as well as strategically planning days at a Disney theme park
to ensure maximum fun!
Carrol was always available for a laugh and a chat, warmly welcoming everyone to her home and quickly
turning friends into family. She loved deep conversations that lasted long into the night and wasn’t
afraid to say things as they were as she shared her learned wisdom and values. Her strong hugs and
hearty laugh made everyone feel loved and cared for, and better for having visited.
Carrol’s courage, strength, faith, and humour has inspired all who knew her to face adversity head-on,
especially as she undertook her own health battle with grace and dignity. Surrounded by family, she
peacefully joined her parents (Roy and Martha), aunt (Marcella), father-in-law (Bill), and brother and
sister-in-law (Doug and Doris) in heaven on September 17, 2022. She will be lovingly remembered and
forever missed by her husband Billy, children Amanda Thomas-Edwards and Ryan Edwards, and
granddaughter Claire Thomas; her sisters Shelby (Zoran) Vaskic and Trina (Dereck) Renberg with the
extended Williams family; her mother-in-law Dorothy Edwards and in-laws Dwayne Edwards, Neil
(Melanie) Edwards, and Lori Edwards; as well as her many nieces, nephews, extended and ‘adopted’
family, friends, and colleagues.
