Obituary of Donald Sydney McCroome

Obituary In Loving Memory of Donald Sydney McCroome, 75 years, who passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer, on April 1, 2023 in Fort St. John, B.C. with his family at his side. Don was born in Sudbury, Ontario, the only child of the late Mary McCroome (nee Boyd) and the late Sydney McCroome, both of Coppercliff, Ontario. He was the husband of Marlene McCroome (nee Cameron), and the beloved father of Kristin (Rich) Newman, and Mark McCroome (predeceased 2009). He will be lovingly remembered for always having a smile and a toonie in his pocket for his four grandchildren Jake, Jordyn, Jameson, and Jesse. Don McCroome was a man of great integrity whose strength of character, empathetic and charismatic nature suited him perfectly for the profession he chose in the fields of Human Resource Management and Labour Management Relations. He truly cared about people. Don began his career with International Nickel in Sudbury in 1970 upon graduation from Laurentian University, and continued working in senior Human Resource management positions, which took him across the country from coast to coast, retiring in Fort St. John, B.C. from Spectra-Energy in 2015. Don enjoyed a variety of interests, and in his early Sudbury years, as a member of the Copper Cliff Highlander youth militia, he competed for Canada at Bisley, UK in the Army Operational Shooting competition. His well-honed marksman skills continued to be a part of his life through his love of hunting and fishing. And to the lifetime delight of family and friends he excelled on the bagpipes becoming Pipe Major for several years with the Coppercliff Highlanders, with his last performance being to pipe his daughter from the altar to the reception. All in all, Don McCroome enjoyed a life well lived and will be remembered most for his outgoing nature, his great sense of humour, his ability to tell you a story, and his most sincere interest in the people he met along the way. As per Don's request, there will be no service. A private burial will take place this summer. Services
